Is he making a legitimate gripe or just whining??

If I'm an ALE or ALC owner, Houston's plan to have no payroll, lose, get the 1-2 pick 4 years in a row and still steal revenue-sharing $--

Peter Gammons ?@pgammo 4m
may guarantee 3 teams in the AL West win 90 games and make the playoffs, and spit on the integrity of the sport. Fellow big market teams who

Peter Gammons ?@pgammo 2m
have payrolls under $40M should 1.not get revenue-sharing and 2. be out of the protected pick business. Rewarding trying to lose is wrong

Its there now. Hit the enter button unintentionally.

My take is he is pissed that 3 AL West teams could make the playoff.

I guess Houston is technically a big market.. but not really.

The year the Tigers lost 119 games only one team in the central won 90.. and they barely did in the Twins winning 90 and only one team made the playoffs.

It's not like the Astros won't win a divisional game this season.

Another good reason to get rid of revenue sharing. If you want to make money as an owner, put a good product on the field.

He's just whining. I read an article a couple of months ago on FanGraphs (I think) that showed having a historically bad team in a division doesn't aid the other teams in that division nearly as much as one would think. Also, the Marlins will be worse than the Astros.

Peter Gammons should be ignored since he knows little about the world outside of the Red Sox.

You might as well be dead once you leave ESPN.

Interesting... wondering why he hasn't jumped on Pittsburgh, Marlins, or San Diego. Or, why didn't he jump all over the Nats when they were perennial 1.1 pick on Draft day?

If Gammons wants to bitch, he should be bitching about Drayton Mclane and Tim Purpura for running the Astros organization into the ground.

Crane bought a shitty franchise with severe diarrhea condition... he's just ensuring his business has a chance at a profit and hopefully will be competitive one day.

I'd be ecstatic if Rangers won 90 games this year.

Dumb.

Back on topic, i hate how some teams collect a fat paycheck from revenue sharing and the owners pocket it as opposed to putting it back in the club.

Yessir. Sometimes to stop the forest fire you have to get out in front, cut down a line of trees, and let it burn itself out.

The problems with the Astros organization were not going to be solved by switching owners and adding a bunch of payroll. It's going to be a long and tough season(s), but the Astros of the 90s were consistently competitive by consistently being one of the best organizations in baseball.

Screw Gammons. The Astros can do whatever they want, they have already been screwed by being forced to the AL.
