People from San Diego would rather keep Comic-Con over the Chargers

Comic-Con and the Chargers are two things that the city of San Diego is best known for and because both were threatening to leave, the San Diego Union-Tribune decided to poll its readers to find out which one was more important to the city -- and let's just say that things didn't go well for the Chargers.
With 3,327 votes tallied so far, Union-Tribune readers have overwhelmingly decided that Comic-Con, which is a four-day event held once a year, is more important to San Diego than the Chargers.
Almost 60 percent of voters (1,937) said Comic-Con was more important. The Chargers have received 1,390 votes so far.
Now, the results would probably be different if this poll were taken in February 2016 and the Chargers were getting ready to play in the Super Bowl, but that's not the case and a poll like this could give Chargers ownership another reason to look toward Los Angeles.
Although Comic-Con will be in San Diego until at least 2018, the same can't be said about the Chargers. Team owner Dean Spanos recently met with LA mayor Eric Garcetti and it's still possible that the Chargers could be playing in LA as soon as the 2016 season.

Comic-Con can be pretty awesome.

That newspaper was bought out by an LA company a few monts back and has been really biased and seemingly trying to help push the chargers out lately.
Buuut if they polled me I'd have said the same thing but I'm a saints fan and couldn't give two shits about te chargers. Ill drive right there to LA once every 8 years to watch the saints instead of getting hit with another tax.

Both produce the same amount of Super Bowl wins.

Phil Mickelson thinks Comic Con is more economically-viable

can't blame them ... the costs of attending an nfl game are ridiculous and owners want a new, free stadium every 15 years ...

Good decision on their part

most people do not realize, that many NFL teams do not make a lot of money for their cities. Also, it's 8 home games. 1 major convention can bring in more to the city than those 8 home games will.
Fans dont stay in hotels, go to eating establishments, etc.
A convention is 100% profit for city, those nerds will stay in hotels, devour the food, and spend cash in that city.
In many cities, people drive in, tail gate with their own goods, go to game, and then go home or have a few for the road. Virtually nothing to the city.

Comic Con has global exposure for San Diego with a broad audience of tech savvy folks and multiple media industries.
Plus one to the people who upvote Comic Con

Its California, what else did you expect?

I'm pretty sure Comic Con has a bigger economic impact. The city sells out of hotel space. The entire downtown/convention area shuts down for this one event. It's fairly astounding if you haven't seen it.

3 year impact near $500 million
Chargers leaving SD would have "minimal" economic impact

Comic-Con, the San Diego Convention Center’s largest annual event in terms of economic impact, attendance and hotel room use by attendees, is expected to generate an economic impact of $488.4 million between 2013 and 2015, according to a study released by the San Diego Convention Center Corp.

"We looked at revenue teams generate, and it's small potatoes," Leeds said. "For it to have any kind of real impact there would have to be a huge multiplier effect, and with most franchises especially football those spillovers are small." He said the effects would be similar if the Chargers leave San Diego for Los Angeles. Last month, the Chargers and the Raiders announced a joint proposal to build a stadium in Carson.

this
the average joe has been priced out almost all NFL seats
why the frick should their tax dollars pay for a free stadium for a billionaire who is involved in a billion dollar sport that is far and away the most profitable in the US?

These guys rigged the online voting.

Something as big as Comic-con is definitely more important to a city than an over privileged sports franchise. Especially when you factor in the taxes San Diego residents will endure to keep that franchise and fund whatever they cry for.
As a society we need to de-emphasize sports and the puppet economies they've created.

Comic-con is better than the Chargers TBH and I am not even into comics or video games. If people have never been to the one in SD it is awesome, Chargers games are the most ghetto things ever. I know a lot of NFL games can be sort of trashy but Chargers games take it to a new level, way worse than Raiders games.
