The school as a learning institution should have been punished for knowing about the abuse and turning a blind eye to it. They got off pretty easy.

What Sandusky, Paterno, and the rest of the people involved did were pure evil. They have all had their deserved punishment. Justice was served. Nobody who had anything to do with those evil acts are even involved with the program or school anymore. I believe it is acceptable to support the program again.

The people who still defend Paterno are sick and delusional though.

They were. Everyone involved was fired and went to jail.

but not quite like Penn St. now do they?

I'll admit, I got tired of the story in about 3 days cause it was all over TV and its mostly all we heard about in the world of sports.

it was pretty fricked up what happened but they took that sick POS Sandusky locked him up and threw away the key. Then Paterno died not long after all of this surfaced.

that sounds like an end game to me.

"Move on" doesn't mean forget about the past. It means "shut the **** up about it, you don't have to bring it up every time Penn State plays"

What do you want them to do?
not say things like like "these fans have been through SO MUCH, I'm just so happy we could get all these wins to heal our community"

It is extremely misguided and short sided and downplays the fact that a grown man raped children on Penn State's campus and it was covered up and ENABLED by the school/athletic depart.

People still defend the administration and the coaches involved. it's sick

but these poor fans.....

I can almost assure you that any other school would react the same way if their icon turned out to be that dirty.

It's a tribalism, everybody is against us and we are special thing.

Even understanding that I root against them too but I don't think about it much because I have never had reason to think about them much until the scandal.

Like you fricking know "all the Penn State fans.

And for alll of with your torches and pitchforks saying the program should be shut down that's why people cover stuff up. If you think Penn St is the only place something like that happened you are kidding yourself.

Punish the guilty and anyone covering for them, which is what happened. If you had shut down the program you would have created a lot of collateral damage and not just at Penn State.

This. Almost all PSU fans I know are in complete denial about JoePa. I want to be too. He was an icon in college football and I wish he was innocent. I can’t imagine how lifelong fans must feel. But still they don’t deserve to have a winner in State College.

Penn State is a totally different animal in terms of its community/fanbase

No, it's really not. Most schools don't have a coaching figure as respected, successful, and one that has given back to the community as much as Joe Pa.

If they did and something like this happened, they'd continue to support that coach who was the pinnacle of integrity and success for so long.
