The NFL announced several rule changes, including:

1) Extending the goalposts up five feet.

2). Loose ball recovery in field of play is now reviewable. "NaVorro Bowman Rule"

3). Longer PATs, from the 20, will be experimented with during preseason.

They are only making the posts taller - the crossbar height will be unchanged.

Yea not sure why it needs to be changed. Nothing was wrong with the pat being where it was.

How will this affect the college game? Aren't there a few colleges that play in an NFL stadium? And there are several of those kickoff games in places like Dallas, ATL, etc. Will they just use the same goalposts that the NFL teams have in place or will they want to switch them back for the older, shorter posts?

The only purpose of extending the posts is to make it easier for refs - fewer balls will sail directly over the post. The actual dimensions of a field goal aren't changed.

Didn't they have to swap them out in the past when the dimensions were different? I would assume they would do the same.

As far as this goes, why such a drastic change?

The length of the crossbar, for both in the modern era, has always been 18' 6"....the length of the uprights is irrelevant.

Makes sense. Hate when it goes over and it is tough to judge.

Good. This needed to be fixed.

What? This is one of the dumbest rule changes ever. The reason the PAT works is because you get 1 point roughly 100% of the time or 2 points roughly 50% of the time. The mathematical expectations are pretty similar. Now, if 1 point drops to 90%, then I would go for 2 every damn time.

I get the game needs to adapt and make changes, but the longer PAT's is beyond retarded.

Now there is no way to get a 2 point conversion. Scoring form the 20 would be next to impossible.

If those statistics would be true, then it would make sense.
