In the 80's and 90's you had iconic players and coaches concentrated among a handful of teams: the 49ers, the Cowboys, the packers, the Giants, the Redskins, the Bills, etc. This made for titanic matchups in the playoffs and the regular season with hall of famers all over the field. Today, it seems like every team has 2 or 3 really good players and thats it. Everyone is just kind of the same. I don't hate anyone anymore because there's nobody to really hate except the Pats.

So why do i care about whats going on with any other teams besides my own? Hate is just as strong an emotion as love. i used to get so excited when the Emmitt Smith Cowboys lost, or when Favre threw 3 picks. Even if a team gets good for a few years eventually they will be forced to let some of their guys go. It's just 32 mediocre to bad teams all trying to not lose. It's BORING.

So what's the solution?

It's also getting harder and harder to "hate" teams when you're not a little kid or teenager for most people.

reward teams who draft well by letting them go over the cap to resign their own free agents

I agree. And every big play is temepered by "I'm not celebrating until I know there isn't a flag". The game is just hard to watch sometimes.

NFL offenses don't value offensive line play anymore. If teams invested in that, there'd be a huge increase in quality of play.

have a soft cap like the NBA which rewards teams for drafting well

I like it. Maybe give 1-2 exceptions per class or something.

It sucks if you are a bandwagoner who latched onto a team for whose city you have no legitimate connection because they were winning super bowls when you were a kid, but they are now 0-7, sure.

For people with legitimate community connections to their teams, I'd argue it's actually a positive thing knowing your team will generally have pretty much as good a chance as anyone else to go to the super bowl, most of whom still in the fight for that at this time this year.

you're such a bitch

yeah all those people who magically became lifelong Saints fans in 2006 aren't bandwagoners

at this point it's really just the uniform you have a connection too. Teams turnover most of their roster every few years now. It used to be if you had a good team that core would stick together for a decade.

Said every fan ever when his team’s are doing poorly. I bet 2013 you thought the NFL was awesome.

All we want is every team to be full of superstars and win every single game in exciting fashion with the players behaving exactly how we want them to. Is that too much to ask for?

No, it's the community behind the uniform.

I like it. More competition for playoff spots and you don't know who is going to show up on Sunday. More exciting imo.
