Oregon players: We don't want to play in the Rose Bowl, it's not a big deal

Oregon may be headed to a fifth straight BCS bowl game, but it's not the game the Ducks had in mind when the season started.

And two high-profile players weren't shy this week about expressing their disappointment.

"I don't want to play in a Rose Bowl unless I'm playing for a national championship," wide receiver Josh Huff told reporters Monday.

Oregon is back in control of the Pac-12 North Division following USC's victory last week over Stanford. If the No. 5 Ducks win out, they will represent the North in the Pac-12 title game with a berth in the Rose Bowl at stake -- a scenario that seems ho-hum to running back De'Anthony Thomas.

"It's not a big deal at all," Thomas told reporters. "We already won a Rose Bowl, so it feels like, 'Whatever.'

Huff said watching USC's last-minute 20-17 win over the Cardinal was especially frustrating because, a week earlier, the Cardinal had knocked off the Ducks 26-20 in Palo Alto, Calif. -- severely damaging Oregon's chances of advancing to the BCS title game.

"It was pulling at my nerves," Huff said. "I just wish we would have handled things differently when we played those guys. ... I don't mind playing in the Rose Bowl, playing for the fans and my teammates. But deep down I don't wanna be a prep game for the national championship game.

Not a big deal? They've won what, 1 in the last 100 years?

They have played in a BCS bowl game every year for about four years now and won their past two. I can see why just playing in the rose bowl doesn't really get them pumped anymore. For them that means they fell short of the ultimate goal.

Did he manage to fight back the tears when he said this? Or were they just free flowing like the 3rd quarter just ended?

These quotes were out a few days ago but it's sad it has come to this. And Huff of all people, one of my favorites on the team. I was stoked when USC beat Stanford to give us a chance to go back again.

And DeAnthony needs to quit yapping. There are probably 5 or 6 skill players who have had more of an impact on the offensive side of the ball than him this year.

Well, that's the best we can do for you when you screw yourselves every year.

They "screwed themselves" by losing to the #5 team on the road. What was the best Bama could do last year when they "screwed themselves" by losing to A&M?

Beat two top ten teams away from home.

What was Oregon's best win? USC? Oregon St?

Well, if they keep up that attitude, then they won't have to worry about going to the Rose. Seriously, what a bunch of entitled, whiny brats.

I just don't understand. The Rose Bowl is still THE BOWL game, aside from the NCG of course. I mean they start promos for the Rose Bowl like now every year, and the hype for other bowls just doesn't compare

I hate to say this, but the Rose could have two teams pissed about not playing in the NCG. OSU would have a much better argument if they remain undefeated, but still that would be a shame
