I really like Mark Helfrich. He seems like a genuinely good guy.

Agreed.

He and Mike Riley have that "really nice guy" reputation.

I've never heard a single negative thing about Helfrich as a person.

He's an Oregon native and has lived most of his life here.

I think he is talking about Freeman, our leading rusher.

I assumed he meant Tyner because Tyner had 80 more yards than Freeman on 1 more carry.

But I see he clarified that he meant Freeman.

Tyner was hurt a lot this year. But obviously healed up enough to run for a season high yesterday.

quote:

Tyner's return to the field allowed Oregon to stick with a more traditional two-back rotation between Tyner and freshman Royce Freeman, who ran for just 44 yards on 12 carries, the fewest he'd had in a game since the Ducks played Wyoming on Sept. 13.

Freeman converted on two third-down however, as well as a pair of short, bruising touchdown runs.

Helfrich said after Thursday's win he and other coaches had noticed Tyner running with a purpose after recovering from a high ankle spain suffered in November.

"A healthy Thomas helps everybody out," Helfrich said. "It helps Marcus. It helps Royce. It helps Byron be truly versatile and not have to lean one way or the other as far as a game plan approach."

Long story short, if both Freeman and Tyner are carrying the rock... that could be scary for the Buckeyes.

The differnce? The Playoff

Years past, they would have been hammered for having their annual letdown game against Arizona. They would have been left out in favor of FSU and Bama. They would have played OSU in the Rose Bowl and lost like they will in a week.

this is true.

The BCS would have left the Ducks out in the cold again this year. Ditto for Ohio State.

This is exactly why the playoff is a wonderful thing.

Sane people without an agenda should applaud what just happened.

It's too bad Baylor or TCU couldn't join in the fun but 6 doesn't fit into 4 and somebody is always going to get left out. It's a start dammit and I like it.

The SEC will get more teams, not less teams, into contention with a playoff. Precisely why Spurrier was an early proponent of a playoff when he was at Florida.

So now Ohio State Buckeye fan is saying that Oregon has trouble with physical teams while completely glossing over the fact that that has definitely not been the case this year. Oregon's OLine absolutely obliterated FSU's DLine last night and that line is every bit as physical and talented as OSU's.

You know how many tackles FSU's Dline had last night on Oregon? 3. All game. That's because Oregon's Oline was dominant.

If OSU fan thinks their team is going to come in and dominate Oregon in the trenches, they are in for a very, very rude awakening.

The playoff system is the difference. Had this been the BCS, Oregon would have been playing the Rose Bowl vs OSU for nothing but pride.

FSU plays a 3-4, or really more of a 3-3-5, while OSU runs a 4-3. Those are completely different styles of play

And I absolutely expect OSU to dominate Oregon in the trenches...so maybe I will be in for a rude awakening

Fsu plays a glorified OLB that is really a DE. It's more 4-2-5 since walker at OLB is 277 and by role he sets the edge. Mariota has seen it though.

You stated it as a fact and not an opinion. I thought you were an expert.

Or you want to believe it for some reason.

I disagree, they are much more physical than they have been in the past.
