Is there a team that's had more trouble getting over the hump than these guys? How frustrating it must be to be a Duck fan. so close every year.

Year Highest Rank Results

2010: #1 (6 weeks) L NCG 12-1
2011: #3 (1 week) W Rose Bowl 12-2
2012: #1 (1 week) #2 (6 weeks) W Fiesta Bowl 12-1
2013: #2 (8 weeks)W Alamo Bowl 11-2
2014: #2 (5 weeks) L NCG 13-2

26 weeks in the top 2 over the last 5 seasons and the closest they've gotten is 2 title game loses. Theres always next year.

Not everyone can get into the title game with 2 losses.

Recruiting Rankings (Rivals)
2011: #9
2012: #16
2013: #22
2014: #26

They won't get over the hump. You keep getting recruiting classes like that, and you will get destroyed over and over in the trenches, then it doesn't matter how good your skill position players are.

Oregon is hard to recruit to because it's not a talent rich area and it's hard to convince kids to move all the way to the northwest. I don't think any amount of money from Nike towards Oregon will fix that.

If you were an Oregon fan, would you be disappointed with 0 national championships after the team ranked 1 or 2 in 4 of the last 5 seasons?

This.

They simply can not get the recruits in the trenches.

Everyone has good skill players. Lots of teams have great skill players. Only the elite programs have great players in the trenches.

Rankings have proven to be shite. You say disappointment then you post a very very solid record over the past few years to back it up?
They had a close game against Auburn and tonight they got schooled by an all time great coach. This is the one they really should have won.
With that said only Alabama, Auburn and FSU wouldn't trade their last five years for that.
And Ohio state after tonight.

Really? Without the turnovers this game is a laugher. OSU was clearly superior and pasted them.

I'm not disputing they've had a great record over those seasons. My point and disappointment comment was more from a fan perspective. Most fans would be ecstatic to have seen their team have the same success. I'm more so getting at they have highly ranked teams every year and seem to always drop a game that prevents them from getting over the hump and becoming one of the premier programs (based on championships). Surely is frustrating and disappointing for anyone involved.

Where were the people who were saying they got dominated in the trenches after they destroyed FSU in the trenches. Oregon's DLine was terrible tonight. The problem was the lack of defensive gameplan by Pellum. How do you not rush any linebackers to plug those holes and go into the game planning to shut down Jones and let Elliot run roughshod over you? Dumb. And this is a guy that LSU is looking at for DC

While true, I wonder if the system they run is hurting them here. While exciting, it seems like they should have the facilities and national brand to recruit differently and get some physicality on the line now.

It's definitely a tough area to recruit to, but Washington was a powerhouse in that region for decades and won a couple national titles.
