What are your thoughts on Ryan and the Falcons?
I'm not "sold" (like most of the country), and last night was a perfect example of why.
Ryan played poorly, whether him or OL or scheming is debatable. And against a defense that is mediocre at best.

I would also like to see what non Saints and Falcons fans think of him. But seeing as how this is an LSU/Louisiana website, you wont get many of them.

I agree, I think ATL is posing again! I'm not a Saints fan, this is just an observation.

I think they play a weak schedule. They've only played two teams with a winning record (Denver, Tampa), and only have two teams left on the schedule with a winning record (NYG, Tampa). A good number of their opponents aren't likely to finish with a winning record either.
If they played Denver now, it'd be a different ball game.

49er fan here.
If the 49ers can't get the #1 seed, then I feel best about the 49ers chances if the Falcons have the #1 seed.
I think some people are discounting the Falcons ability to find a way to win in close games. The 49ers couldn't agaisnt the Vikings and then were outplayed entirely by the Giants.

As a Texans fan, I think their record speaks for themselves.
They are a good team and have won some close games which is usually the mark of a good team.
Do I think they are the best team in the NFL? No, but I don't think the Texans are either.
At any 1 week this season, the Packers, Texans, 49ers, Falcons, Giants and even the Broncos have looked like the best team in the league.
ETA: Patriots as well
It's just going to come down to who gets hot at the right time.

Going 11-1 in the NFL speaks volumes for this team. I am probably one of the few that thinks all these close games are an advantage for them. It instills confidence that you can win games late. Different sport, but the 2010 Giants in MLB showed that. I Would only rank San Fran over them in the NFC at this point.

As a Pats fan, I'm not sold on Ryan at all. He has two elite WR's, a great TE and a solid defense to back him up. He should be putting up crazy numbers, but isn't.

I'm not sold on him until he does it in the playoffs.

I've never been sold on Ryan. Until he does something in the playoffs, he'll continue to be just meh to me.
Eta... And as far as the Falcons go, I think that are one of the top 3 teams in the NFC, but I don't think they are as good as their record indicates.

I'm not sold, but I don't think there's a legitimately great team in the NFL, so they have just as good of a chance as anybody. I'm still trying to figure out how the Ravens are crushing their division despite being worse than they've been the last 3 or 4 years.

They look like a classic 13-3 team that will lose in the first round of the playoffs.

As an outsider, Ryan is sort of 'the best of the rest', behind the Big 4. The Falcons have an outstanding record, but they resemble the Ravens in a lot of ways-- they've built it with very good situational play, and a schedule that has broken favorably-- but I don't see them as the best team in the NFC.

The Falcons are 11-1. That should count for something, weak schedule or no. This is the NFL, not college football. Any team can beat you on any given Sunday. They may not be as explosive as New England or as physical as San Francisco, but they get the job done. And this is a Niners fan talking right here.
I think we should wait until the playoffs before we pass final judgment on the Falcons. I think they can win the Divisional round. The NFC Championship Game though? That's another matter entirely.

to be fair, the Ravens usually have a tough schedule because they always make the playoffs and end up playing the Patriots every year, it seems. This is sound reasoning that is hard to disagree with. The only thing I will add is that the Bears are a totally different team with Cutler. I hate to bring up injuries, in any sport, but GB is much improved (obviously) with Matthews, Woodson, and Jennings. In terms of NYG, they have the capability like no other team of turning the 'on' switch to get to another level. Their "best" IMO, is the best in the league.
