Not impressive, because it is well-established that Tim Duncan is a cyborg.

For the PER lovers, his PER this year at age 38 is roughly equal to what it was when he was a rookie in 1997-98 next to David Robinson. It's never been under 21. As a Rockets fan, I don't like the Spurs, but I can't bring myself to hate them.

Because they couldn't take him seriously. And he's "from" Texas.

Judging from the players around them, I think that's from their 2003 championship.

That team was Robinson's last and really wasn't expected to win it all (despite Duncan backing up his '02 MVP with another that year). Several players (rookie Ginobili, firebrand Stephen Jackson) stepped up to take that team to the next level.

That was the year they finally got over that Lakers hump after '01 and '02.

ETA -- don't know why I put '99

That is pretty cool, especially considering Bush was elected twice so the distance between #1 and #3 was pretty far. If he can make to a 4th president that would be spectacular.

Yup, they spanked us pretty bad those years.

Probably because we played the lakers that year, too

We swept 'em, though.

Tbird, I remember a lot of chatter during the 03 playoffs about Kidd going to SA. Obviously it worked out great for them in the long run, but were Spurs fans hoping for Kidd, and disappointed they didn't land him?

Good call. That was a huge rumor back then. Along with Malone and Payton to the Lakers.

A LOT of Spurs fans really wanted Kidd--didn't know if Parker would ever turn the corner and become a complete PG, and some fans hadn't yet really accepted the skinny French kid as Avery Johnson's permanent replacement.

I was in Parker's corner (convenient to say now, I know ), if only because he'd shown he was willing to put in the work to be the best fit for our system. Also, Kidd had a lot of miles on his tires at that point.

Those were the days when I was glued to PTI and SC, and it was practically a foregone conclusion.

Not even the most optimistic of Spurs fan could have that those three would form a long lasting core.

It obviously worked out in the long run you guys definitely benefitted from not tying a bunch of money up on Kidd
