Spinoff from a thread last night, I have yet to hear an explanation that made any sense to me

Sure MJ/Phil/Kraus didn't have the best relationship and didn't like each other very much but that's not a good reason to break up one of the best teams of all time

I hear things like MJ didn't want to retire which I find sort of hard to believe but of course him coming back to play later does lend credence to it

B/c Jerry, MJ, and Phil were all self absorbed assholes who each thought they were the #1 reason for the team being so good. It was an extremely toxic organization.

my absolute favorite bulls story is the one where MJ, Ho-grant, and Pippen were so competitive that they had a huge bet on whose son had the biggest dick

Jordan was commanding nearly $30 million per year on one year contracts at that point. Krause and Reinsdorf thought they would be better off financially. They also didn't like the fact that Jordan and Jackson had the kind of power usually reserved for the front office

I once read that Jordan was slightly spiteful towards Pippen because his hog was bigger than MJ's.

Yeah Pippen was going out with Madonna and Jordan made a comment to her that he could satisfy her and she said "not like Scotty can"

Slight hijack:

There was an ex-Bulls coach who did a tell-all Reddit or something a while back. He had all these great Scottie Pippen stories. About how he could pull women like no one's business and that whenever the Bulls would play in L.A., Madonna would send a limo to pick him up at the airport. Apparently, Jordan got jealous and asked Madonna, "What's Scottie got that I don't have?"

Pippen has this calm, confident delivery when he speaks. It didn't always translate on the court, but he had Jordan with him so it didn't matter.

I think they would've kept it going had Phil stuck around, but he was going through a nasty divorce at the end of the Bulls run (in addition to dealing with Krause's shite) and I think he needed a change of scenery.

With Phil gone, there was undoubtedly going to be a monumental power struggle between MJ and Krause to choose the new HC. Reinsdorf is loyal to his guys to a fault, so I think MJ read the tea leaves that Krause would win out, so he retired.

That was Krause's green light to blow it up early rather than piece meal a roster with a new coach and no MJ for another title run.

I really need to start reading The Jordan Rules. I bought it on iTunes a year or two ago, and never started it.

These stories remind me of Boys Will Be Boys. That book on the Cowboys teams from the 90's. Although i believe that the cowboys were a lot more fun to read about.
