On tonight's show the monologue focuses on Jeter's relative overratedness not only in all of baseball, but in the position of SS and the Yankees organization.

LINK

I think he's spot on. While Jeter is a great player and hall of famer, has he really transcended all of sport to the point that he gets this unprecedented and sustained amount of "pats on the arse"?

I can't remember anything in particular Jeter has done on or off the field since the cutoff and flip against the A's bout 10 years ago

Agree
Jeter is not a once in a generation player as he is made out to be

Just a ploy by mlb to create legends and a story because the game itself isn't interesting enough to keep fans

He's a first ballot HoF'er, won multiple World Series. Not sure why he can't be appreciated.

He is extremely overrated as a baseball player.

But as a straight pimp? GOAT.

So every future first ballot HoF'er should be paraded around everynight like he's part of the make a wish foundation?

will Adrian Beltre get the same treatment? He passed Brooks Robinson for most total bases by a 3rd baseman all time this year. Add that to the gold gloves, and the fact that he's consistently hitting over .300 and he's playing himself onto the ballot

No he won't. That much is clear. The season long parade is really nauseating.

I think the big allure to Jeter is that in a time of steroids on top of steroids, he kept his nose clean and collected 3,000+ hits while not being all jacked up. He is a baseball purist and while he doesn't have the flashy HR numbers, he's the all time Yankees leader in hits. Let that sink in for a second and sit there and think about all of the past time greats to wear the pin stripes. That in of itself is impressive. All of the above mentioned doesn't even factor into his defensive abilities which was phenomenal. In a world run by social media and "news now" Jeter is getting most likely the same praise as most other first ballot guys, we are simply just able to hear about the same exact thing from multiple sources all at once.

Jeter's last home game will be tweeted, shared, linked, commented on, watched, broadcasted, talked about, mentioned on Facebook, etc. on multiple platforms across the world by hundreds of thousands of people if not millions. if social media was around when Mickey Mantle was playing you would have heard the same thing. It's just a different beast these days with technology.

Baseball is an obsolete sport in decline

It has to create stories to entertain and this is one of those stories

Legends have to be created

Jeter's Legendary status was not created by anyone except himself. To think otherwise is foolish

U don't see that level of ridiculousness in any other sport when a good player retires

Baseball grasping to bring fans back

This trendy Jeter backlash is lame. Dude was a stud for 15 years and we didn't hear this griping about boring arse Cal Ripken - he of zero titles.

Jeter is a great player, one who has not had a steroid controversy, one who hasn't called out a teammate/player, one who has given his all on the field.

Even his on the field accomplishments are worthy of the Hall of Fame, sure he was overrated defensively and he didn't hit for power but Jeter was a consistent .300+ average, .350+ OBP, .440 Slugging guy for his career.

The guy slammed more dime pieces than any of us will see in a lifetime and kept all of that out of the tabloids. He has been a true professional and a model for kids everywhere, so let him be honored. Very few players deserve this and Jeter is one

Jeter is overrated. He's a NY media darling. He should have retired after his injury, but he had to come back to get sucked off by MLB.

you mean the year he led the league in hits, hit .316 with a .362 OBP, and slugged .429 for a .791 OPS....

Jordan got this kind of treatment when he left the first time. I am sure Kobe/LeBron will get it even worse. Just watch. The reason why it's more spoken about in baseball is because there are so many "lasts" being that there are 162 games in a season. There's a last time he will play in several parks, last time he plays in a ASG, last time pinch hitting, last time at Yankee Stadium, etc.

Baseball is not grasping to bring fans back. As far as I know, it's the one sport that has solid parity in the league and any team can contend for a title. Unlike the NBA/NFL where you see the same teams make it year after year.

Overrated, but to be fair he made 2 of the top 5 most memorable / important defensive plays of the past 15 years tho.
