I'm in no way trying to make light of the horrible accident at Stillwater, but according to ESPN, Oklahoma State thought about cancelling today's Homecoming game against Kansas. I'm glad they didn't, am I wrong or isn't that a little excessive?

I would not have been surprised to see the game delayed or cancelled

People died there today. That's a lot more important than a football game.

Absolutely. But, from what I know, the driver was drunk or on drugs and it was most likely accidental. I'm not so sure she had the actual intent to cause this accident.

If this was premeditated, then that changes everything.

I honestly don't really see how that changes things either way. It's almost as if you are excusing driving while horribly impaired.

People complained when they had the plane wreck killing the Women's coaches and lost. That wreck had an affect on that team that night. They would've complained if they'd delayed this game also.

I would have hated to be the AD and President in this situation.

I don't see how playing the game would have been disrespectful or insensitive to anyone and it won't change what happened. Let those with family and friends involved change their plans but I don't think postponing the game would have been realistic

No. That's not what he is saying at all.

He is saying there is a difference if someone got drunk and ran into a crowd. No intent to do it. Just got way too drunk, got behind a wheel, and a horrible accident.

Opposed to something premeditated. Say if someone or some group were targeting the Ok.State crowd for some kind of reason.

The only auto accident that causes a delay to the game should be a team bus.

It's an isolated event.

There is no reason to cancel a game because of it. It's not always possible to reschedule these things and this took place outside the stadium..

It's absolutely terrible what happened and life is most important.. however, it wouldn't do much for what happened to cancel the game.

It this was a true terror attack then that might be different.

Playing the game was absolutely the right decision. I can see why there was a discussion about it.

But everyone was there for a homecoming celebration and football game. If you cancel the game then it's like the people died for no reason since there was no game.. no reason to be there. Maybe a rough way to explain it but they absolutely should have played for the victims' sake and memory.

An isolated event that took may have needed security and medical personnel away from an event.

You have to look at the entire situation and town not just the game.

And just as said in my op people would've bitched if delayed.

This would have been a very valid reason to cancel.

I do to, as I stated I would've hated to have to make that call.

I'm not saying it was the wrong decision wrong at all, but that decision cost LSU the '11/'12 national championship. No way OSU loses to Iowa State that night if that hadn't happened.

I agree with you. I couldn't believe Gundy and the AD took his team out there. His reasons were right, but they should've delayed it a day at least.

I think that's what made it even worse with Bama getting the rematch. That oSu didn't get a break for playing that game they just looked at final.

Wouldn't the emergency crews already have enough personnel to be prepared for possible multiple events such as this?

There were firetrucks part of the parade, that immediately turned into responders..

I would like to think they were well staffed to be prepared to handle multiple events, but I have no idea.

If this was a concern I totally understand though.

Totally agree. Besides the fact that OSU played a much better schedule, actually won their conference championship, lost on the road instead of at home, and wouldn't have been a rematch in the NCG, it seemed nobody talked about how weird the vibe was that night they lost. Not only was it a weir Friday night game, they had a huge tragedy affect the athletic department hours before. But none of that mattered. Benefit of the doubt was only given to Bama, who lets be honest, was likely better than OSU, if not significantly. But they were certainly less deserving.

Oh well, though.

College towns are not equipped to handle 50 casualties at one time.

A large metro area would be able to pull it off, but this is Stillwater, OK we're talking about here.
