I think it's either back with the Cards or with the Cubs.

I really think he leaves, and I really hope the Cubs don't sign him for what he's going to want.

I think if he was going to give St. Louis the hometown discount, he would've done so already. He's looking to get paid, IMO.

I think he stays. He'll give a home town discount to a point as long as the Cards don't low ball him terribly.

Why wouldn't he have just done this in the spring and been done with it?

As medtiger said he had his chance to give the hometown discount and passed.

He wants to be the highest paid player in baseball, and deservedly so

he wants to be highest paid of all time, right? Cards can't afford him...he's gone.

Its either going to be the Cubs or someone in the American League. The Red Sox and Yankees are both out, as they have aging position players that will transition to DH soon AND have great players at first base right now. Most teams can't afford to pay him what he's going to get on the open market. I'm leaning on him going to the Cubs, Theo wants to make a splash, and has no problem signing aging players to 7 year contracts.

I think he stays and breaks the bank for the Cardinals.

Cubs are going to overpay Fielder, not an ancient Pujols.

Although I'd be thrilled to see the overrated Epstein go full retard and give a 35ish year old 2-time champion over $100 million dollars to play first base for the Cubs

The issue with this is that Theo is probably going to see that he can sign Pujols and do nothing else, or try to improve positions that seriously need improving. If the Cubs were a bat away, it would be worth over paying for Pujols, but they're several bats and several arms away from contending.

My fear is that they do this and hamstring the payroll and it becomes the Pujols show and nothing else.

What will the brewers do without Fielder?

This is key. Their SP was ghastly last year.

I hope they do not sign CJ Wilson. He will cost too much and not be that good.
