Official Speedweeks @ Daytona thread | Daytona 500 | Hamlin wins!!!

I know we did a thread like this a couple years ago and figured we could do one now
Will post the results of practices/qualifying/races as they come
Hate not seeing JG in a car but having him in the booth is a nice touch (I'm worried he might suck at this)
Sprint Unlimited Results:
1-Denny Hamlin won the Sprint Unlimited Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway, for his third win the the non-points season opener. Hamlin also won in 2006 and 2014. It was the first time new Overtime procedures were use. #11-Hamlin got past the overtime line on the backstretch and made it to the start-finish line to take the white flag when #20-Kenseth, running 5th, got loose and into #78-Truex Jr. also collecting #1-McMurray, #10-Patrick and #2-Keselowski. The caution came out and the cars slowed and the cars that came across the finish line first were scored first. #22-Logano held off #27-Menard for 2nd. #42-Larson finished 4th and #13-Mears was fifth.
On lap 73, #2-Keselowski got into the rear of #19-Edwards, turning the #19 sideways, collecting #13-Mears, #18-Busch, #43-Almirola and #3-Dillon, this set up NASCAR Overtime.
On lap 57, #1-McMurray was bump drafting #5-Kahne, but the #5 got sideways, shot up into #47-Allmendinger. Kahne came back out, but left debris causing another caution and went to the garage
On lap 44, #48-Johnson and #13-Mears made contact while Johnson was in the middle. The #48 then moved up and bounced off #27-Menard and shot across the track and thru the grass, tearing the nose of the #48 Chevy.
On lap 23, #14-Vickers lost a tire in turn one while running in the middle and slid left into #88-Earnhardt Jr. tearing off much of the #88's door area, the #14 shot up the track and slammed head first into the wall, collecting #4-Harvick. The #14 came back down the track getting into #15-Bowyer. Other cars damaged of #41-Busch, #16-Biffle and #47-Allmendiner. That ended segment 1.

500 Qualifying results:
Elliott wins Daytona 500 pole: #24-Chase Elliott win the pole for the Daytona 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway with a speed of 196.314mph, his first career pole and he is the youngest Daytona 500 pole winner. #20-Matt Kenseth will start 2nd, running 194.036mph. The front row is locked into those spots. The rest of the field will be determined by the Can-Am Duel 150 Qualifying Races on Thursday (7pm/et on FS1). The rest of the top12: #88-Earnhardt Jr., #18-Busch, #17-Stenhouse Jr., #48-Johnson, #21-Blaney, #3-Dillon, #19-Edwards, #11-Hamlin, #41-Busch and #22-Logano.
During round one of qualifying #88-Earnhardt Jr. was fastest, followed by #20-Kenseth, #24-Elliott, #18-Busch, #17-Stenhouse Jr., #3-Dillon, #48-Johnson, #21-Blaney, #11-Hamlin, #19-Edwards, #41-Busch and #22-Logano, these 12 drivers will go for the two locked positions of the pole and outside pole.

#78-Truex Jr had a roof flap that wouldn't close and didn't make a lap after going to the garage and not being able to get back within the five minute time limit once the car is presented for qualifying. Truex Jr will start the 2nd Can-Am Duel 150 from the rear of the field.
From the eight Open, non-Charter, teams running for the four open Daytona 500 spots, #21-Ryan Blaney and #93-Matt DiBenedetto secured spots by being the two fastest non-charter cars in qualifying. Blaney was 7th fastest and DiBendetto was 26th fastest. The next two drivers in speed were #59-Michael McDowell and #26-Robert Richardson Jr. If either Blaney or DiBenedetto are the highest finisher in their Duels, McDowell would make the race on speed. If both Blaney and DiBenedetto are the highest finisher in their Duels, then both McDowell and Richardson Jr. would make the Daytona 50 field. The remaining four drivers: #98-Whitt, #35-Gilliland, #30-Wise and #40-Sorenson, have to be the highest finishing non-Charter car to make the race.
The cars of #4-Harvick and #14-Vickers failed post-qualifying inspection as the cars did not have the track bars in compliance. Both qualifying speeds were disallowed. #4-Harvick who was to start 9th in the 1st Duel, will start from the rear. #14-Vickers was to start 10th in the 2nd Duel, will start at the rear with Truex Jr.

Denny Hamlin wins the Daytona 500: #11-Denny Hamlin won the Daytona 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway for his 1st win of the season, 1st win in the Daytona 500 and 27th career win. Hamlin led 95 of the 200 laps.
It is the 2nd Daytona 500 win for Joe Gibbs Racing and first since Dale Jarrett won in 1993. It is the first career win for crew chief Mike Wheeler.
#78-Truex Jr. led coming to the start-finish line, but Hamlin caught him and won by .010 seconds in a photo finish.
#18-Nusch finished 3rd, followed by #4-Harvick, #19-Edwards, #22-Logano, #42-Larson, #7-Smith (kids eat free at Golden Corral on Monday), #3-Dillon and #41-Busch.
#20-Kesneth led on lap 199 and was quite a bit ahead of the 2nd line which Hamlin was in, Kenseth moved over to race Hamlin and ended up falling back and finished 14th.
#24-Chase Elliott, the pole sitter, spun on lap 20 while in the middle of the pack and did a lot of damage to the front end. Elliott came back out down 40 laps and finished 37th. #88-Earnhardt Jr., who led 15 laps, and was the race favorite, spun off turn 4 on lap 169 hitting the inside wall and ended his day, finishing 36th.
There no large wrecks, termed 'the big ones', during the race.
There were 20 lead changes among 15 drivers and 6 cautions for 31 yellow flag laps.

I would do it but I'm too inconsistent with being able to update the thread as I am travelling on a good bit of Sundays and have an 8 week old little shite master

I'm not sure I like the digital dash but they're standard in newer cars. It's a lot of info they get.
