I know nothing about cycling, but my brother was watching it and explaining. He's been on rides with Lance Armstrong. May watch some tomorrow.

if you want to catch a group peloton flying through the countryside... catch tonight's replay of today's stage

if you want to see cyclists crushed by a mountain... watch Saturday... all you need to know about Saturday is Col du Tourmalet... 1 of the baddest mountains possible

The baddest mountain of all is stage 12. At its peak it looks like the moon.

I wished one day they'd have a team time trial up Alpe Du Huez

oh how could I forget Mont Ventoux... that is bad... esp since crosswinds can get to the cyclists too

logging operations stripped Ventoux of all its trees and the soil eroded so there's no shelter from the winds

Sagan will let go of yellow tomorrow. There's no way Oleg will want that team to defend it, unless Contador is in it.

Contador's already lost like a minute or 1:30 to the rest of the main contenders after a pair of falls on the 1st 2 days

I know but everything I have heard or read has been he's calm about it. I am trying to figure out if Sky is just going to try to win tomorrow and block for Froome the rest of the way. If Contador can hit them on Saturday it may be a race.

Sky has destroyed the tour IMO. But they're machine like.

If we are honest, Teejay has no shot and neither does Quintana.

for Tejay... at least he has the bulk of his team helping him now that Richie Porte lost time and is essentially out of the running

but yeah TVG and Team BMC needs to run a near perfect race for them to overtake Froome and Team Sky

How are you trying to act like its Contador or bust? This isn't 2009

Quintana lost last year by less time than he lost in crosswinds, this year no early loss and a parcour even more suited to him.

It was always Quintana vs Froome, Contador losing time just sped it up.

I want Tejay to be there to the end... as the USA's only hope

and for him to finish on the podium in Paris

Movistar doesn't have the team to compete on Sky's level and they'll pay attention to him like a hawk now Contador lost time. Also his TT is not that good, compared to others.

Tinkhoff only shot is Contador and its slim because nobody is going to let him go.

I like TJ but he could do with a longer flatter TT if he wants to podium

I think he suffers because the US only cares about the Tour, he should pick a grand tour based on the one that suits him best, aka any with a long preferably flat TT. I backed him and thought he was on course for a podium last year, but I think top 5 will be the best he could hope for if he reaches the peaks he did last year. Not a fan of the Tour de Suisse over the Dauphine, the record of its participants speak for itself

Nobody has sky's team, but that doesn't mean they are unbeatable, last year they were down to Poels in the mountains after Thomas showed the effects of the crash.

This year G has messed up his ribs with early crash, Henao has never lived up to his potential in regards to a GT I don't see him or Nieve(good stage hunter) being in the final 10 riders in the latter stages. Landa is a great tool to have, will be interesting to see his form at he end of the 3 weeks as he peaks for the Giro. I don't think we will be seeing a Wiggins esc Sky train even if they wanted to ride like that

One of the two TT is a mountain one, Froome has 4km to put enough time in to Quintana, I think Quintana beats him in it

interesting conversation that I didn't see this morning but just heard a little bit ago in the replay...

the broadcasters expect Cavendish to retire at some point before Paris to start getting ready for the olympics

I imagine he'll do it as soon as Sagan starts opening up the points lead in the intermediate mountain stages (like tomorrow's)

how many others make a similar decision?

ETA: Cavendish already achieved his personal goal this tour... being in yellow for a day... and they have said he is eyeing gold in Rio

Phil Ligett was talking about that yesterday or was it today? Talked how he's been in London mostly.

Renshaw after the stage was talking as they were ready to get Cavendish a green in Paris.

I want to know who will ever replace Ligett after he retires?

Same with Sherwood, as they've done the call since the 80's.

If you think Quintana has no shot you are sorely mistaken
The course this year with less flat TT favors him over Froome. I really want Froome to win because I always root for the Anglos but I think Quintana wins

just saw that the helicopter covering the Tour did a flyover of Oradour-sur-Glane today... a town absolutely obliterated by the Nazis as they retreated

it was just left in that condition... and my 1st look at it in color HD... as a WWII buff it was definitely astonishing for me to see it like that

Haven't been following this as much this year, but just looked at the stage profiles and I'll be be watching Saturday and Sunday, those stages look like they'll be fun as shite.
