Odds are that an 11-5 NFC team will be left out for the first time

Just based on schedules, Arizona, Seattle, Dallas, Philly, Green Bay and Detroit all are more likely than not to win at least 11 games this year. Only five of those six teams can make the playoffs, and if it plays out like this it will be the first time ever an NFC team didn't make it in with 11 wins.

Based on tiebreakers, it appears the odd man out will likely be the loser of this week's Dallas/Philly game. Both teams lose the majority of the tiebreaker scenarios if they are competing for the wildcard and would need either Arizona to lose out or Detroit to be upset by Chicago or Minnesota and then lose to Green Bay.

Dallas will miss the playoffs, and it will be glorious.

saints make the playoffs with a 6-10 record and cowboys miss with an 11-5 record. I will lulz myself to death

man, I remember how hard Saints fans were crying just a few short years ago when they got destroyed by Marshawn Lynch & the Seahawks.

Might be for the best, seeing as this is the only scenario that essentially guarantees a restructure of the current seeding system. The NFL could let it slip away quietly into the night if it were anyone else, but not Dallas.

Is the overall NFL record 11-5 as well? Set by the Pats a couple years ago I believe, it was the year Brady got hurt I believe.

oh don't misinterpret my disdain for the cowboys as an acceptance of the rule. it is fricking retarded that a 6-10 could make it over an 11-5 team and something needs to be done about that but the lulz to be had at the Louisiana Cowboys fans would tickle my fancy

Outside of the toe end of the boot, there are more Cowboys fans than Saints fans in Louisiana in my experience.

08? The year the Fins won the division? Who won the wildcard & with what record? And what is Matt Casell up to?

It's happened multiple times in the AFC. Why don't they just get rid of divisions?

It's only happened twice ever, the '85 Broncos and the '08 Patriots.

that might happen seeing how the overtime rules got changed after the Vikings cried so hard after Favre threw across the middle to Tracy Porter

And if they got rid of divisions, they'd have to redo the entire scheduling format since teams play divison rivals twice each currently.

The better way would be to just implement an over .500 rule. If you don't finish at least 9-7, even if you lead your division, you drop into the wildcard pool. If only three division winners get in, you seed the top wild card team #4. Much simpler, they could even drop the minimum record to 8-8 if they had to.

They could still play each other twice.

You cant play two games each against three random teams if you dissolved the divisions. That's the most retarded idea ever.
