I'm starting to like my $10 bet on the D-rays to win the WS at 150-1.

Kazmir, Sheilds, and Garza/Edwin Jackson are a legit 3 man playoff rotation and they haven't even called up David Price yet. If they can hit and score runs they will be tough in postseason.

Good luck with that. There's no way they hang around past June

Sure there is, this team is more for real than most people realize, and its for the exact reasons Priceless (sorry) pointed out. (although I wont go all the way in saying they are a playoff team...but they will hang around past June).

The Marlins, on the other hand...

I had the Rays as my surprise team in the MLB predictions. They are pretty solid and I think they could make the playoffs next year.

I also picked the Tigers to win the WS. That sure as shite aint working out too well

Making the playoffs is the toughest part. If they get in though they can do some damage.

They are 27-19 and don't have anyone in double digit Home Runs or batting over .300 (as a regular player--Navarro has 96 AB and is hitting .365). Once Longoria starts hitting like everyone expects him too and Pena's power returns to where it has been for the past couple of years they will be even better.

You're like me on October 1st holding my 150-1 Lions/Patriots in the Superbowl prop bet for $20.

Just don't see their offense scoring enough runs consistently over long enough stretches to hang. I do buy that their pitching is legit especially at home as the Sox found out first-hand. I'm not seeing them slip into the last place, we know who has that spot occupied , but I don't see them in the playoffs.

a little bit of perspective by Matt Cerone today:

quote:

Had the season ended on May 21, 2007, the Phillies, Rockies, D’Backs and Cubs, all of whom eventually did make the playoffs, would not have made the playoffs.

The Phillies were .500 and in third place, the Cubs were two games under .500 and in third place, the D’Backs were 25–21 and a half-game back and the Rockies were nine games below .500 and in last place.

just goes to show how much baseball there is still yet to play this year.

Exactly, as much fun as I'm having goofing on the Yanks this year, the Sox let a 14 game lead reduced to 2 by season's end. No one is out of it yet.

I wouldn't go that for. San Diego is already talking about mailing it in with Peavy headed to the DL and already 12 games back.

Pittsburgh and KC were out of it when the first pitch was thrown on opening day.

I don't know KC is only 3 out, you never know. Then again they were no-hit the other night

I think that the bats are going to get better. Longoria will have his BA up by at least .30 in the next 2 months. Aki has come around recently, after a terrible start for a leadoff man. Pena can't really get any worse, well..... maybe he can, but I expect him to improve. I do think that we will see a slight decline in pitching performance, but not with the starters. The Rays' bullpen was lights out for about the first 30 games, but have struggled a bit in their last 10-15. The bullpen was the best in MLB (based on ERA) for a while, but I think that they are really just slightly above average. Their defense has been very solid, and that won't change.

I don't want to jump the gun and call them a playoff team yet, but I certainly think that they will "hang around" past June.
