Anyone going to catch this on Sunday? It's in Avaondale, and this is the inaugural race. I just looked up the track, it's not an oval (Indy 500 style), it's "Grand Prix" style with a bunch of turns, including some real tight hairpins, and two long straightaways. They are racing Indy cars (open top with wings), not "NASCAR" type cars.

I'd say it's not been advertised very well; I came across the info online last month, but had never heard anything on local media until very recently. Other than the weather, it seems like it would be a good time. I'm not a big racing fan, but top level Indy Car racing with the Penske and Andretti teams- that sounds like it would be more of an EVENT than just a race.

Here's a writeup
LINK
and the track layout

Anyone ever attend a race like this? Where would one want to set up and watch it live? Finish line, I'm guessing?

Would have loved to go to it but I'm working this weekend It's nice that big time series is racing in the state finally. I'd love it if somehow the Aussie V8 Super Car Series would run as a companion event like they do in Texas with F1. I'd go just to watch the V8 Super Cars alone.

Also, I just noticed the track is shaped like a spanner wrench

Skinny end looks like a bottle opener, which is appropriate for this area. I wish they would build a drag strip and get an NHRA race down here. Id be all over that

Me and the wife will be there tomorrow. We have passes that allow us to take a ride in the Honda Civic Si pace car around the track in the morning. Looking forward to it.

Too bad about the rain, in regards to spectators sitting in the rain. From a racing (and TV) perspective, rain can make for more exciting races.

At this moment there is a lightning delay preventing qualifying. The drivers are happy to drive in the current wet conditions but aren't being allowed onto the track.

If anyone went to the track today, make sure to report on the spectator experience, whether the fans have good views of the track, that kind of thing. If you have kids, I think on Saturday they have a driver autograph session as well.
