Saw this touched on briefly in the season long hockey thread, but in case some people don't check it, here is the map of the breakdown.

I'm not too thrilled, things were looking up for the Panthers, not doing too well this season, but the Southeast is generally an easy division to win and stay competitive in. Now we're screwed.

I liked being with Chicago, Nashville, Detroit etc. but this will make things easier on the team instead of being in the West.

I would like to have seen the Isles & the Rangers moved into the Northeast & then Florida & Tampa would be in the Atlantic. Would look better on the map at least.

It's more about keeping the timezones together, not really much to worry about North and South, so it works just fine.

Obviously because they didnt group them with latitudinal considerations

They are grouped within 15 degrees of longitude?

ETA: Since you edited, latitude makes hardly any difference. Those teams don't really have rivals so they were easy to put in the division with the Canadian teams.

They are all in the same timezone, so it makes what maybe a 30min-1 hour plane ride most of the time?

Makes no difference, the only thing that would matter if they were giving up a divisional rival, which they aren't.

I'm a little ticked that Chicago is an Original Six team left without any of its traditional rivals, but I love the Patrick Division getting back together. So I'm good with it.

I was busy looking at a map trying to figure out how many degrees between Boston and Detroit.

It helps the CBJ in that they don't have to be in the west, and we are grouped with teams like Pittsburgh, Philly, NYR (Rick Nash), etc.

It'll be fun

I guess you mean a difference in flight time from being in C vs D?

The difference from flying Florida to places like Philly, New York, Pittsburgh,(Division D) as opposed to Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Toronto, etc.(Division C).

Yeah.

It's negligible.
