You still need a digital antenna...

ETA the condescending ellipses.

To sum up, CBS, Sunday Night Football, and Thursday Night Kickoff all hit 7yr lows. And ESPN MNF fell by 32% combined. Only FOX did better than the previous yr, thanks to the Cowboys vs Giants.

Why would anyone combine the percentages to evaluate them?

Well the team LA got was crap for years and they played a team that was crap last year.

What you'd be looking for (since LA hasn't had a home NFL game in years) is a sellout crowd. It's not like LA hasn't had NFL football on TV.

Its free OTA tv...you do to have to have cable for that...

Yea but many people increasingly do not even care to buy an antenna. It's cheaper and easier for them to simply find a quality stream.

Disagree 100%. No one knows how to play QB anymore in college.

NFL players are better, bigger, faster and stronger.

I'm wondering if the downward trend in ratings is a people tired of football thing or people tired of NFL thing. What were college football ratings like during the first week of the season?

This should be done comparatively with the increasing number of people pulling the plug on cable

Ad Age, citing figures from Nielsen, reported that every returning drama that aired Tuesday night saw viewers decline by double digits while debuts were a "mixed bag." But aside from the performance of individual shows, the number of people using TV in the coveted 18-to-49 demographic was down 8% against the same time last year, and for the first two nights this week usage is off 10%.

I cut the cord but I watch more NFL than anyone I know. It's possible to do it legally. It just takes some effort.

Yes, but most on here won't admit to that. It drives CFB fans nuts that the NFL is bigger.

Oh, and CFB games take longer.

Game unwatchable.
Too many commercials
Too little action
Inconsistent biased penalties.
Rules that are stupid. (What is a catch)
Add this year, clueless protests

Changes
Give each coach three penalty challenges. Won't slow down the game just do a commercial during challenge and one less after every change of possession.

5 yard defensive penalties and non flagrant pass interference shouldn't be automatic first downs.

And the traditionalist will die ... Eliminate the punt. 4 downs. Must go. Would put the running back, back into the game , greater drama, rewards defense , makes play calling on third down and 4 or 5 morel strategic. Makes the game more exciting.

Bash on ...

I think because it's highlighting MNF as a total package because the games were both billed as Monday Night Football.

These 4 hour games are getting frustrating. The NFL has it right in this regard. This can be attributed to three things, two of which I think need to change:

1. Replay. The NFL has replay right. Scoring plays and turnovers are automatically reviewed. Everything else comes from a coach's challenge. IMO, this is the biggest issue with time for college games.

2. Halftime. NFL halftime is 12 minutes. College halftime is 20 minutes (add an additional 5 for CBS games). As much as I'd like to see the band's performances get cut a bit in time (maybe play 2 songs instead of 3?), this probably won't change.

3. Clock rules. Stopping the clock after every first down is ridiculous, but I wouldn't mind the clock being stopped after first downs inside the last two minutes of each half in both college and the NFL.

Damn, if that's what you think of the NFL, I can't imagine how hot your take on CFB is.

I never understood why college halftime is so long...also why does CBS get an additional 5 minutes??

Would get boring, plus you lose the punt return for TD which is the 2nd or 3rd most exciting play in the game and the punt block which might be the most exciting play.

Or, maybe it's because LA just isn't that great of a market with regards to pro football.

WSJ did a good piece on the length of college FB games last year.
