According to TIME, Goodell recently discussed with Rick McKay, Falcons president and head of the NFL’s competition committee, a radical rule change proposed by Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano. Instead of a kickoff, the team that scored would then take the ball on its own 30-yard line in, essentially, a 4th-and-15 situation. In other words, they could attempt to keep their offense on the field and try to pick up 15 yards, at the risk of turning the ball over on downs; or they could punt.

Haven't they "looked into" this for the past 3 years?

This can't be real. Would completely change the game. A team down multiple scores late now has a much better chance of keeping the ball than they did recovering an onside kick.

I hope someone trucks Schiano on the sidelines. This motherfricker did the same thing in college. He's doing this shite because his player got hurt at Rutgers. He's the reason for the new kicks/25 yard line touchback.

Absolutely fricking garbage, that is a completely assinine rule. If they are so damn concerned about litigation, why not just have players sign a frigging waiver? The new kickoff rules that has increased touchbacks sucks as well.

Yea I'm mad!

Completely misleading title. It was an off the cuff remark in an interview for Time.

The original idea came from Greg Schiano.

After seeing that cover, now I really hope he is the one outed for diddling the hookers.

If this is actually being discussed, well...

Could we start a PayPal account to collect donations to fund a hit on Goodell?

A guy I know in ferriday said he would do it for 20K plus expenses.

How is punting less dangerous than kickoffs that sail out of the back of the endzone?

If this come to fruition I will donate all of my Saints gear to goodwill and quit watching the NFL.

I, for one, have enjoyed the twelve touchbacks per game since the "new" kickoff rules were implemented.

Good God. This is getting unbelievable.

Soon guys like Josh Cribbs and Jacoby Jones will be out of work because of this movement.
