Another incentive for players not to take it out of the safe endzone and into the DANGEROUS football field.

So you move kickoffs up to the 35 then make touchbacks go to the 25

Goodell never ceases to amaze me

the kickoff is the new extra point

Will kickers now try to not kick it deep though?

Just get rid of fricking kickoffs then.

Oh wait, then we'd lose 9-10 commercial break opportunities.

Bingo Zingo...I haven't done extensive film study and data collection, but it seems like when there is a return, 75% of the time the runner makes it to or just past the 20...I'd be willing to bet coaches will employ somebody to track this data over the last few seasons and determine if they should shoot for kicking it to somewhere inside the 5

I'm actually excited about this because I bet it has the opposite desired effect.

BDP will support this.

This is my thought on it. Sure, it helps offenses but truthfully it could create more shorter kicks since there's less risk with the 5 yard increase.

Good. Brining it out a quarter of the field seems more than fair

So in 2011, the NFL moves kickoffs up to the 35 yard line to entice more touchbacks to minimize returns for player safety only to change the rule in 2016 to penalize teams for touchbacks so as to have more kickoff returns

Seems a little counterproductive to the whole CTE issue and injuries associated with kick offs.

Not if they have a brain in their heads.

Think about it.

On one side of the decision the best case scenario is an advantaged gain of, what, at best 10 yards (given that the returner gets to the 15 yard line).

On the other side is a TD return.

Who the frick is going to try and risk a TD for 5-10 yards of the most invaluable yards on the field?
