Bloomberg, 1/2 (siap)

The recent criminal indictment of an African American studies scholar at the University of North Carolina sheds dismaying light on how big-time college sports corrupt academics. This scandal, unfolding since 2011, has the potential to destroy a vaunted football program at a prestigious public university. The impact could be—and ought to be—far broader than that of the Penn State child-rape debacle. That’s because the deceit in Chapel Hill points to more systemic weaknesses than the failure in University Park to stop one monster coach who preyed on little boys. And the Tar Heels fiasco adds race to the toxic mixture of athletics and rank hypocrisy. . . .

Here's a more in depth article of all the fraud they committed. It was from the NY Times a few days ago.

And not a damn thing that will ever be done about it either.

Yet you had best believe if it happened at Kentucky, Pete Thamel's arse would be calling for the death penalty.

the amazing part of the press coverage is NC has successfully distracted the press from the real object of their defense - their basketball program.

that's what the academic fraud was really most interested in protecting - their basketball NC's associated with teh academic fraud are the real issue for them

This is old news and the NCAA has done nothing on this. UNC is basketball school so the NCAA will look the other way. Basketball makes the NCAA money unlike football.

If you want to dive in deep, NCSU's scout site is a good place to find anything regarding the scandal. You have to wade through the typical message board garbage, but there isn't a document on the web related to this scandal that isn't flagged and commented on. They really hate UNC.

Class never met. Will the professor rat out the athletic department? He was well paid to not show up.

"It is doubtful the students learned much about blacks, North Carolina or anything else, though they received grades for papers they supposedly turned in and Mr. Nyang’oro, the instructor, was paid $12,000. . . ."

Basketball players took the class too.

Football team should have gotten the death penalty for all the shite they've been involved with though.

How does one obtain a person's transcript? Isn't that covered under the Data Privacy Act?

The is NCAA gutless when it comes to investigations. Ever since Penn State they seem afraid to tackle any issues. Note their failures on the Miami deal and complete lack of interest in the Yahoo story where players admitted taking cash from agents while playing.

They'll pick on some down and out program to try to make an example of them and let everything else slide.

1 - Who doesn't.
2 - Which, I keep trying to explain to fellow fans, is why NC St would be the perfect addition to the SEC, NOT UNC. And NC State fans want to be a part of the SEC.

Alas, it'll likely never happen now that Swofford forced all ACC members into the parasite TV deal.
