Clint Capela is inexcusably bad at free throws. How can you call yourself an NBA player if you shoot below 50%? Why don't they work on these skills more?

Make your damn free throws. Shouldn't be allowed on a roster shooting below 50% from the line.

This is exactly why i loathe the DH in baesball, sorry pitchers can't hit, maybe they should work on that.

If I were every team, I'd hack a Howard 24/7.

$20M per and he still is turrible at free-throws. Almost cost us a few games in the process.

I do think it shouldn't be allowed though b/c it purposely disrupts the flow of the game.

Why should you be rewarded for having a shitty shooter on the floor?

Looks like there will be change this offseason.

Here's Adam Silver's recent quote on it:

quote:

“Even for those who had not wanted to make the change, we’re being forced to that position just based on these sophisticated coaches understandably using every tactic available to them,” Silver said. “It’s just not the way we want to see the game played.”

The best way to discourage them is to be a competent shooter of free throws.

Doesn't discourage them from fouling at the end of the game to save time:

Fouls should never be a punishment to the team getting fouled. As of now, it's a punishment for when you have somebody that can't make them (which I'm semi okay with) and when you have the lead at the end of the game.

It's the same issue.

Giving teams the option to take free throws or Inbounding the ball fixes both problems.

I'm ok with that. It's a strategy that has a fair risk/reward balance.

quote:

Fouls should never be a punishment to the team getting fouled.
The foul is not a punishment unless the team cannot executed a basic, uncontested shot that is gifted to them.

quote:

As of now, it's a punishment for when you have somebody that can't make them
They aren't punished for being fouled, they are punished for not being good in a fundamental component of the game. That is a good thing.

quote:

and when you have the lead at the end of the game.
Again, it is not a punishment. It is a well balanced risk/reward scenario that often injects strategy and excitement into end of the game scenarios.

Teams will sub in/out situationally for offensive/defensive purposes. I don't see how a fundamental weakness like FT shooting should be any different.

It's a strategy that literally makes it impossible for one team to actually play basketball. The strategy cannot be countered by the other team. Lets say a team like the Warriors who can drain three like nobodies business is down. If they start fouling, the other team only has the option to shoot for two points. Meanwhile the other team still has the option for three points each possession.

There's no way to justify that is fair. If you want to argue that it makes it entertaining then fine but it's not entertaining to me when one team is literally forced to do one thing.

People complaining about there being a rule crack me up.
Yes, it is a competition and you do what you have to do if you think it is going to increase your chances of winning, but when it starts affecting the product then you can't blame the NBA for stepping in. They don't want to sell a shitty product.

This type of play makes for a phenomenal product...should encourage rules changes to see more of it, actually.

Here you have a team, shooting a FT, dictating to the other team how their next possession is going to play out before they even have a chance to inbound the ball.

It has everything to do with it. Free throws are meant to be a good thing to get. Make your free throws and intentional fouls will stop
