He was on the Steelers preseason roster one year.

I was pretty certain that he played with the Titans for two years as a practice squad/reserve guy. I heard him do an interview once and he said it was a bit tiring, coaches would be asking him financial advice and treating him differently than other players. He even noted at one point he asked his position coach why he wasn't getting the reps other guys were and the position coach said that he was destined to do great things when football was over. These other guys were a cut away from a minimum wage job or prison.

I specifically remember Mayock wondering and negatively concerned at Rolles's combine. Mayock pulled the whole "how much does this guy truly love football" line because the kid took a fricking Rhodes scholarship!

At that moment, I never respected Mayock again. The NFL should've never been more proud to have that kind of kid and all the "football guys" were concerned about was that he wanted to be a fricking Neurosurgeon in the future.

Well that's pretty important for a draft prospect. You don't want to invest a pick in someone that may just quit

#1 ranked athlete in CFB recruiting; Rhodes Scholar and now Doctor...dude hit the DNA lottery.

I remember when Robert Smith (pre-med) complained to the administration at Ohio State that his coaches were telling him to focus more on football and less on classes...telling him "you're not here to go to class, you're here to win football games." (paraphrase)

Gary Fencik for the Bears too...Yale and Northwestern...awesome athlete.

Wasn't there a TE for the 49ers in the 80s who went to med school or dental school or something WHILE he was playing.

Well Steve Young went to law school while he was playing. But everyone goes to law school these days.

That's fantastic. A lot of hard work.

In yesteryear, Frank Ryan was an excellent NFL quarterback and also a rice physics PhD

I remember when he got drafted and the knock on him was he was too smart and teams thought he wouldn't be committed to football because he'd want to go to medical school or something of that nature

Neurosurgery just abiut the hardest residency there is. Definitely do not have to do general surgery residency first, whoever said that watched too much grays anatomy. However often they do an intern year with general surgery.

Then left school a year early to play football. And now works as a football analyst. LIL Bitch
