The clock should stop after EVERY play. And it should be restarted when the ball is placed by the umpire and ready for play.

Why does it stop for an incompletion, but not a tackle inbounds? There's no reason for this other than (shitty) tradition.

And stopping the clock to "move the chains" in CFB is the most arbitrary, asinine rule evar.

With my rule change, end-game tactics become much more interesting. You won't see run, timeout, run, timeout, run, timeout, punt anymore. Teams will actually play for first downs instead of just plunging into the line to run the clock.

With as many times that teams throw these days, games will be about the same length.

It will be even longer since, you know, stopping the clock more often...

No way. Do you realize how long games would be?

the clock would only stop from the moment a play ends to the moment the ball is placed and ready for play.

yes, the clock momentarily stops after every play, but it also runs after the brief stoppage of about 10 seconds.

The games wouldn't be much longer, if at all. With two pass-happy teams having lots of incompletions, the game might be a lot shorter
