I'm playing in a golf tournament this week with a number of business associates and I haven't played in at least a couple of years. I can only go to the range once before I play and don't want to embarrass myself.

I'm thinking I need to focus on swinging easy and keeping my eye on the ball. Any advice or good place to get tips?

Assuming this is a scramble and the guys that your playing with aren't equally as shitty, I'd work on putting. Since not playing in 3 years and one range session isn't going to lead to your shots being used at all.

Golf WRX is a good site.

But I'd withdraw if you are worried about embarrassing yourself.

Good thing is it is a scramble.

85% of the time your playing partners are worse than expected. Just go in without an expectation for yourself and play as well as you can.

If you're terrified of it you'll suck it up.

Bring a lot of cigarettes and deadlift the day of the round.

You got this.

Scramble

Split range between Nitro and putting. Let the other guys hit an iron shot.

Definitely focus on putting. Maybe hit 50 balls on the range just to get a feel for your swing. Then head to the putting green.

Cool. You still have to hit each shot.

All I'm saying is that a swing thought is only going to get you so far. Focusing on "keeping you eye on the ball" will probably make you hit is worse. I would think more " keep your head still (level). Focusing on "swinging easy" will probably make you hit it worse because you'll start decelerating. I would think more "accelerate through the ball".

However, 95% of your shots will not be affected by these thoughts. You'll still hit it like shite, especially having not played in years.

So, either pull out if you think you'll be embarrassed by your game, or go in knowing that you are going to play like shite and are just there I have fun with some business associates.

Get some of those exploding golf balls and naked lady tees so that no one will notice how bad you suck at golf.

Hit on the cart girls, if there is a fat one this would be you best bet, and get drunk.

Oh, and some skunk weed if you can get a hookup.

IDK of the scrambles you play in but they usually leave us with approach shots from 75 and in.

He really needs to get the putter halfway decent so he can putt first and give his teammates a good line.

I think most golfers who've played a little but are really out of practice will benefit from "focusing" on getting your torso around. Sort of a wind-unwind/coil-uncoil thought process, rather than your eye on the ball, head down, shoulder under chin, etc. etc.

This assumes you're pretty out of practice.

find simple thoughts and just do your best.

1. "swing down the line"
2. putt if you can, chip if you can't, pitch if you have to
3. use a 3/4 swing

frick the golf, its a scramble. Tell your partners you havent played in three years, drink, tell jokes, and have fun. I believe in being honest on and off the golf course, and they will appreciate too. Can't stand when somebody thinks they are better than they actually are and makes excusses for every shot they miss. Take em to the titty bar afterwards. Yw.

I like the way you're thinking ruzil, will definitely be drinking some cold ones. I'm flying to Destin, so don't know if the green will happen, but hot cart girls seem like a certainty!

Thanks for the tips.

Yea this blows.

It's frustrating though when you're playing with some new people and are playing poorly
