In the major sports, in the event of the death of a player does the team receive a compensatory draft pick, or some other form of compensation? Does that scale with performance?

If God forbid Bryce/Lebron/Brady got hit by a bus right now, what happens?

No

Depends, how fast was the bus moving? Fully loaded or empty? Is Brady in full pads and helmet? There are a lot of variable in this equation.

Ask Celtics about that Len Bias pick.

RIP.

Are there circumstances? Like Bias died from drugs. I mean that's technically his fault. It's also the team's fault for not vetting thoroughly.

Sean T had his house broken into and was murdered.

If there aren't different circumstances there should be.

Doesn't matter if a player dies or has a career ending injury, teams don't get compensation for it.

How about cap hits?

Interesting, thanks. I'm surprised this isn't part of the CBA.

What about that scene in the Last Boyscout where the running back shoots defenders on the way to the end zone?

15 yard penalty? Does the score count?

It depends on how fast the other bus is traveling in the opposite direction

Continuing this line of thought: according to Larry King, who was the Dolphins color guy in the early '70s, he saw the Dolphins' copy of the league contingency plans in case of a team disaster (i.e. all killed in a plane crash). The plan is to immediately put together a new roster of players and coaching staff to play all scheduled games.

If teams got compensated for player deaths, they'd be hiring hitmen to take out players instead of cutting them. I dont think we want to go down that road.

Yes but offset by a matching 15 yard penalty because coaches and players from the other team ran onto the field.

The owner of the bus would sue for damages and the MSB would discuss how much harder buses used to hit in the 90's.

I think he kneeled before he got into the end zone. He was screwing over the mob, right?

I am pretty sure there would be no cap hit.

Now, if the player signs for guaranteed money, does that money go to his estate, or back to the team? Or does it depend on responsibility of the death?
