Prior to beating LSU on the rematch Bama had pretty much no claim to deserving to be there other than their name and their conference. Ok State simply lacked the name recognition and inflation that the USC's, Notre Dame's, Bama's, tOSU's and FSU's don't have to deal with - so they got passed over when they shouldn't.

i mean if LSU is going to claim that the SEC West was unreal that year and the Big12 sucks, then we have to admit Bama's claim is powerful

it's not like OSU had 0 losses with a much easier schedule than Bama

Take LSU out of the equation and look at OSU and Bama. who had the better wins? Bama. who had the better loss? Bama

With respect it was exactly relevant. People expect the name team to win. People over-value the name team. People over-rate the name team and give them extra chances.

Who brought up anything about the SEC West in 2011? That's the first mention I've seen (good thing since it was really top heavy and not great overall). LSU really distinguished themselves with their OOC play as much as anything. Beating Oregon and WVU on top of winning at Bama was an incredible three game guantlet. Arkansas? No one really knew if they were any good until they finally beat a good team in their bowl game. They were absolutely destroyed by both LSU and Bama.

Ok State had wins over OU, Baylor, and Kansas State (as well as over 8 win MU and Texas teams) prior to their bowl win over Stanford (which is sold short given what we know about that team's talent esp with the best QB in cfb that year).

Bama had a win over Arkansas and a 9 win PSU team. Ole Miss, MSU, and Auburn had a collective 17 wins between the three teams.

But Bama had the name. Just like always in college football, people are really anxious to up-rank a name team and really reluctant not to give them a second chance instead of a no-name team a first chance.

JJ would have fricked us regardless.

Man that season was so incredible, hardest schedule any team has played in my lifetime and we won them all, until 1/9.

1/9 murdered a large part of my lsu fandom, I've still never recovered from that day.

Holy shite it had nothing to do with anything. Those losses came in completely different seasons. What is so wrong with your brain that you thought that had any relevancy at all?

Maybe I'm just cynical, but this is utter nonsense.

its heart wrenching. Imagine if just one player on the football team was dating one of the two dead female players or even knew them well from some class

The seasons are different but the overvaluation carries over year, after year, after year if you are a media darling. Stoops pointed out as much before he backed it up

Bama & LSU during 2011.
Either or, both historically championship worthy!

The rest, not so much.......

Just found it funny that after all the bitching the media did, they kept Bama at #2.

Before the game was even played people were talking about a rematch no matter who lost. Had people actually thought Oklahoma State was better than Bama they would've voted them higher.
