This was the highly anticipated first boxing match in 4 years that Mike Tyson fought in right after getting out of prison.

It grossed nearly 100 million world-wide & made 64 million in paper-view alone close to doubling the previous record holder.

Anyways, Mike Tyson almost killed him in the first round. Does anyone else remember this & how highly anticipated & advertised it was?

Just read where Hurricane McNeeley is in jail for burglarizing a Walgreens in Miami or something.

here's the wiki page about the fight.

Remember it well. I spent the money on the PPV. Dont remember how much it was. Tyson in his prime and before Don King I don't think was beatable. He knew defense and could take anyone out with one punch. He also knew how to box though whick I think a lot of people didnt realize.

Didn't McNeely say he was "going to wrap Mike Tyson in a cocoon of horror,"? Or was that Tyson saying that about McNeely?

My friend's dad ordered the fight. Right before it started my friend passed out and missed the whole thing. He still brings it up.

I thought his first fight was against Don Flamenco?

No, that was his first title defense after he beat Super Macho Man for the title. Of course he easily beat Flamenco with the old "right-left-right-left" combo. Sandman gave him the best fight.

For real though, when Tyson got out he looked like a caged animal that had just been let out and was ready to kill

I remember it vividly. I do not remember anyone giving McNeeley the slight chance at any point.

They really sold the 'Hurricane' name to pump up the PPV sales.

Either of the Klitschkos in their prime would beat Tyson in his prime. Same for Lennox Lewis. The pugilist specialists who had the reach and intelligence would just frustrate the hell out of Tyson. He never faced a competent behemoth in his prime, unfortunately.

Came here to post this.

The hype before Tyson fights was always unreal. It was ubiquitous, really. But it always ended-up the same way: weeks of build-up, and a 30 second match.

Occasionally after a night of drinking I will randomly still say this to people. Most of the time I get weird looks but the ones that know what I'm talking about give me a laugh.

I wish the heavyweight division would get some stars again. I miss those big fights. Hell I miss good boxing, from about 97-05 I think I had a PPV going every Saturday night in my house.

McNeely's ring entrance music is painfully awful.
