Mike Trout, current Hall of Famer?

Article in ESPN has me thinking, if say he had a horrific injury but played another 6 seasons being average at best (1.0 WAR) would he still be a Hall of Famer.
Right now there is no doubt his path as he has been the best or one of the best players in the game over the past 4 seasons. However, has he done enough in those 4 seasons to say he is a Hall of Fame player if he has 6-8 average ones. His current WAR according to baseball reference is 37.9 so 6-8 average seasons could put him around say 44-48 career.
Would be similar to an Andruw Jones even though Jones never reached the offensive peak of Trout and Trout doesn't have the defensive WAR of Jones. But a young player who was bound for greatness only ro fall off fast, in Jones case weight and attitude.

He'd have a better chance if he had a career ending injury instead of being average for 6 years.
Those 6 years wouldn't get any of his counting numbers to HOF status and they'd just ruin his avg, slg, obp, etc stats.

Not for me although I'm probably the wrong person to ask. I'm absurdly picky about CF Hall of Famers. There should only be eight ML CFs in the HOF (Mays, Cobb, Speaker, Mantle, DiMaggio, Griffey, Snider and Hamilton). I don't think Puckett or Ashburn or Dawson or Doby should have gotten in. None of them are HOF caliber players IMO.

If you are the consensus top player in the league for 3 plus years, I have zero issue with that person going in.

Better question, if he continues on his current path how many voters will not vote him in on the first ballot of the hall of fame?

He would need to play those 6 years to be eligible.

Eta: I took that out of context. Really not a bad comparison considering the point you're trying to make

The best comparison to your scenario would be Sandy Koufax. Koufax had 3/4 average seasons, 2 seasons of very good production, and 4 seasons of absolutely dominant/MVP level play.

Except Koufax's brilliant seasons were at the end of his career, letting him retire on top, and leaving an image of brilliance in the minds of fans and HoF voters.

Too soon.
But he's going to be one of the all-time greats when he's done a LONG time from now.

Tell that to Dale Murphy. Or Bret Saberhagen. Being incredibly awesome and then incredibly mediocre kills your HOF case.

Crazy thing is that according to baseball references HOF probability, trout still isn't to a point where he has a good probability. His point total is about 75. The only player under the age of 30 that is above 100 is Kershaw. Now, trout will probably be were Kershaw is when he is 27

What if Trout had 2 more fantastic seasons, and then he like has a freak accident and dies?
He would have been the best player in baseball over a 6-year span. Is that not enough?

I can't fathom a way he doesn't get into the HOF barring any extenuating circumstances

He wouldn't even be on the ballot under that scenario

10 years?
That is a very silly rule, given some possible circumstances that could keep a guy from reaching 10 years in the league.
