Mike Golic is butthurt his kid was only a 2 star prospect

He just went on a rant about how his son was one of the top TEs in the nation after his junior season, he committed to Notre Dame and stopped going to camps, they labeled him a 2 star.
Then he had 100 excuses why his son didn't get real playing time in college that had nothing to do with his talent. The whole point of this was so they could say recruiting rankings are pointless

I have a 30 minute drive to work at 6:45, I flip between ESPN, local Dallas radio, and NPR world news.
When the other two are on commercial I listen to M&M

Mike and Mike are so cartoonish.
The only great thing they do is have frank caliendo on. His stephen A impression is the best thing I've ever heard.

well he does have a point here
the recruiting services rely heavily on the camps and its obvious the kids the commit early don't get the bumps/hype that kids that hold till NSD get
the rest of the stuff though is probably butthurt

For those that didn't hear, that whole segment showed how clueless they are. The whole basis for his argument that recruiting rankings were irrelevant was the fact that his son went to the Army All American combine as a junior and made it on some "All Combine Team". "How is he a 2 star after making that all combine team??? because he refused to go to the camps that are hosted by the guys who make the rankings!!"
Worse than that, Greenie tried to list these theories why the NFL isn't "overrun with former 5 star recruits", basically using that as the lone basis of his argument that the rankings are dumb. I guess no one bothered to tell Greenie that there are like 30 - 5 stars a year, and about 250 - 4 stars, even more 3 stars, etc... might have something to do with it yea Greenie?

Yep, seems to me like the rankings nailed it, he was a great high school player who clearly didn't translate that well into college

Well he acted like its 100% political. Like if you don't go to their camp they intentionally slight you. Maybe that's true sometimes, but really if you don't go to the camps they aren't able to see you and get a true rating

Easy guys, I thought he made some good points. We can debate whether his kids were good enough to go to ND, but his point was that the kid earned his way with that junior combine, then watched his stock plummet when he didn't kowtow to the apparel camps (which were meaningless at that point). The better point he could have made is how a lower tier kid actually gets a pop in ratings sometimes just because a certain school takes him. I know there was a lot of criticism of Mack Brown for clearing spots for highly rated juniors that didn't have good senior seasons. But, because they committed to Texas, they still had high ratings.

Naaa...actually a point can be made that he was only invited to that combine in the first place because of his name.
