The Eagles fined, and forced a player to take a class for a single word he used at a concert in his own free time. Where were all these "freedom of speech" supporters then?

I'm not saying that the NFL or the 49ers are unable to punish CK, I'm just saying that it's still a general principle and one's speech and expression should be evaluated with that in mind.

If the 49ers choose to punish him, then fine. But I wasn't active supporting the Eagles punishment (but I understood it) nor will I actively support the 49ers punishment (but I would understand it). It's their prerogative, but I don't think the situations are completely comparable either.

A show out of the suburbs of New York liberal?

Does the Mike&Mike TV show suck as much as the Mike&Mike radio show?

I understand your thoughts on this. I know they will not fine him, but it has been proven over and over again that whatever transgression happens, doesn't have to be covered in detail in the CBA for the league to act.
I would further argue that they aren't comparable because only one of the two men was closer to having an actual right violated by the league. That was Riley Cooper. He didn't say what he said in a uniform, in a press conference, or even at the teams facilities. It was his private time, and he didn't say it for public consumption. A truer "freedom of speech" issue than Kaepernick making his stances and espousing his anger towards "white america" in uniform, in press meetings, and in the NFL workplace. Make no mistake, he's talking about the evil "white america".

I don't mind either being fined, or being left alone by the NFL... but have some consistency.

As for ESPN gutless "talent", I don't expect fairness, but don't make it so obvious by bringing up "freedom of speech" in this case, while completely disregarding that right in the previous issue.

It's fairly easy to comprehend these days: if you speak in any way that is against the "minority" cause or pushing a more conservative agenda, free speech only means that you are not going to jail for it. You will be punished, publically chastised for it, lose your job, sponsors etc... Now if you say anything utterly and completely wrong and racist as to the "majority", it's America, you have the right to say that, people fought so you could have that freedom. And people wonder why Trump won the nomination

The point is that on ESPN in general, with M&M this morning, there was no debate. What we got was a lecture by liberals on how much we do not know about our rights. Every literate American knows about our freedom of speech & how it has been defended over the centuries and by whom. But their condescending lecture on our..conservatives'...obvious lack of understanding is what aggravates me. Jones, Hill, Golic, Greenberg were all but looking down their noses at any conservative thought, though not one peep of said thought was ever presented. Curt Schilling was the last..only ??.. conservative on ESPN & he got fired for expressing his conservative opinion on a very divisive issue. And, yes, I know he was already in trouble but this issue pushed him out the doors at ESPN. Name me any other conservative who is not only on ESPN but is a regular.

Most don't know what its about

[quote]LINK ]

As early as 1806 Francis Scott Key adapted the tune to an earlier poem he wrote entitled When the Warrior Returns in honor of an American naval victory over the Barbary pirates. It was the valiant defense of Fort McHenry by American forces during the British attack on September 13, 1814 that inspired 35-year old, poet-lawyer Francis Scott Key to write the poem, when he saw the flag over Fort McHenry "by the dawn's early light."

In 1931 the Congress of The United States of America enacted legislation that made The Star-Spangled Banner the official national anthem.

it would be interesting to see if a player got punished for not participating in some sort of pro-gay pregame event
