Posted by HumbleNinja on 7/15/15 at 11:04 am322
Michigan has officially reported the details of its new record deal with Nike:
11 years, 169 million, 76.8 in cash. Easily the most lucrative apparel contract in college sports

I wonder how many games Michigan's apparel will win for them

yes way to disprove this by showing the program's biggest accomplishment in the last decade is an apparel deal

No one outside of the Michigan (and Walmart Wolverine) community will care unless the product on the field improves.

It actually kinda is. You think Nike would throw this money for an irrelevant program?

If Michigan is getting this type of deal, think about what other schools are going to get in the future..

Before this happened I would have said no.

Not trying to defend Michigan by any means, but that group you listed includes a LOT of people

2008: 3-9 no bowl
2009: 5-7 no bowl
2010: 7-6 Lost Gator Bowl
2011: 11-2 Won Sugar Bowl (we're back! Hoke is a legend)
2012: 8-5 Lost Outback Bowl
2013: 7-6 Lost Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl
2014: 5-7 no bowl
But hey congrats on that shiny apparel deal!

Other programs like Ohio state or bama? Sure. Other programs like 95% of college football? No

walmart wolverines and rocky top trash buy player jerseys at alarming rates - what else is new?
maybe in time the backwardness of those two midwestern football cultures will recognize that wearing the jersey number of some 19 year old kid on the back of your shoulders is beyond pitiful.
this is nothing to be proud of.

i couldn't care less about the jerseys, I haven't bought one of those since I was a teenager. I am excited about just regular Nike michigan apparel though. Adidas is just awful in that department, they put out some hideous stuff.
Yeah we have been pretty shite for awhile now, but we gotta pound our chest about something, especially when you consider our leadership for the majority of that time. it has been a good offseason for us, let us have it.

Where does this Nike money go? Honest question. Is it earmarked where like 70% goes to football, 20% goes to basketball and 10% to the rest or something like that? Or does it go into the school coffers for them to determine where it ends up?
re: Michigan's Nike Deal worth $169 millionPosted by BilJ on 7/15/15 at 11:49 am to WestCoastAg
he was trying to refute the claims they've been irrelevant on the field with this deal.
Do they still have a strong brand? Yes. But so do the Knicks.

No, he was refuting the claims that them as a program are irrelevant. They aren't. They probably never will
