Miami Heat for next season
Posted by WHATDOINO on 6/21/13 at 6:15 pm01
Who can they pick up for an additional role player? Who is out there and who will they be going after?

Dwight Howard

Anyone that is at least 6'10 and can take up space in the lane.

Brand would be a good get imo

Hopefully Miller will retire. He is wasting 5 mill of the Heats money they could use else where that is actually helpful (yes he did good in the finals but he has hardly played at all all year and you can tell he is injured).
I hope they drop miller and resign Anderson. Maybe get Oden on the minimum and hope he works out. Their focus will definitely be on getting someone who can actually defend and rebound against big men

Heat only have a 3M mid level exception and will be paying MASSIVE luxury taxes the next two years.
In fact, Lebatard was saying on the radio today Micky Erickson (Heat owner) is losing money and will take a bath the next two years. Erickson said he didn't care though when Lebatard asked him just how much he is willing to lose to make Miami happy. He is a billionaire and one one of the wealthiest men in the world after all.
So, they will do what they can, but will be severely limited. Good chance they let Mike Miller go so they can actually do something though.

Edit: Now it would save the Heat, including tax, like $12m-15m. So it's very attractive business decision, but it won't help the team any. And would only serve to hurt the team's depth and three point shooting.

I think they let him go though. Saving $5M when the owner is losing money will probably be the call.
Who knows though. Arison is a GREAT owner and doesn't mind losing money if it gets results.
ETA: Thanks for the correction.

Has chalmers re signed yet?

Splitter is probably $8-$10M next year. Way over what the Heat are allowed.
It will have to be a veteran willing to take a pay cut or someone much cheaper with the mid-level exception.
