Cincy I get. Solid Program. But Memphis?
re: Memphis and Cincy to Big 12?Posted by RTR America on 12/8/14 at 3:39 am to cardswinagain
Memphis is a top 15 television market when it comes to CFB viewers. They just won the AAC with a 9-3 record (2 losses were @UCLA & @Ole Miss and both were close). They just locked up their coach for the foreseeable future. The Memphis Midsouth area pumps out a ton of D1 athletes.
The Big 12 is now a partner in the Liberty Bowl. The chairman of the Liberty Bowl hinted this move on the radio in Memphis a week or two ago.
Prestigious basketball program that plays in one nicest NBA arena's in the country that has hosted the NCAA tournament, CUSA, and AAC tournaments in the past.
Plus Memphis is a fun place to visit for an away game.

I like the Memphis selection,
If I was the Big 12, UCF would make a lot of sense going forward.
If you are going to add 2 though, I say add 4, it is all about keeping up, and they just saw what only having 10 teams does for you. jump ahead of the Pac-12 and the ACC.
The other two I would add, would be Cincy as mentioned before, or one of the two out of San Diego State, to me the better decision, or Fresno State.
Also rename the conference and the Big 14. Play a 10 game conference schedule, and of course add a championship game.

LINK
Who is saying that BYU turned down the Big 12? According to the link provided, in the latest ESPN article, it says that BYU has openly talked about their desire to join the Big 12. If thats the case, add BYU and Cincinnati. Go to to North and South divisions and be done with it.
NORTH:
BYU
Cincinnati

Somebody suggested Marshall in an article I read. West Virginia won't let them in anyway.
UConn?
UConn?

For the Power 5 conferences, location of school does not matter as much as it once did. Yes I think BYU is a good fit, I just think UCF makes way more sense for an expanding conference like the Big 12. Everything fits, as it currently sits, the Big 12 has the least amount of reach out of the Power 5. Remaking the old Southwestern Conference was not the best decision and they payed/will continue to pay for this.

Let's not go that far.
The only two times they made the Final Four, they had to vacate their wins due to recruiting violations.
Above average program, yes. But not elite.

I think the question could become, not when the Big 12 expands, but how many teams do they add? Who is to say that they wont add 4 teams? Why not add Cincinnati, Memphis, BYU and either Colorado St, Boise St or Houston?

More teams, less money to go around.

They don't need to expand. Watch the Big12 get a team in next year and all this talk is pointless.

Colorado St Article
A quote from the article states that "not having a championship game cost the Big 12 conference 6 million dollars".

Yes they do, watch what happens when one of the conferences is left out because a Big 12 team didnt play a championship game. Their needs to be equality in the P5. The Big 12 is not on the same level playing field.

If the Big 12 expands to get a conference championship game, one must think like a coillege President, not fans or reporters, or even colleg ADs. It is the Presidents of Universities who make the decisions on these things.

Do you even math?
Splitting that 12 ways > splitting 14-16 ways
Splitting that 12 ways > splitting 14-16 ways

Youre right they are at a disadvantage, but not for the reason you think. They actually play more conference games than most and play everyone. They do not need a CCG, this year was just a fluke.

What are you talking about? The Big 12 has 10 teams currently. Where are you getting 12 > 14-16? The fact still remains that not having a championship game cost the conference 6 million ADDITIONAL dollars of revenue for the conference to split. Additional revenue can not be less money?

Whats the argument going to be when the B1G goes to 9 conference games?
