That's like when Dick Cheney led the Bush VP search and named himself.

No, just this reaffirms it.

Spot on. I think Pops did this in SA too.

Never played in the majors and has never managed, but apparently he's friends with some managers...so should be good.

Reminds of me when Jeff Bower did this with the Hornets.

I don't think it was Bowers' choice to coach the Hornets, but Shinn's cheap arse told him to.

ETA - This is likely a matter of owners telling the manager, you built the ship, now prove it floats.

Or is it like when Popovich was the GM and named himself the coach in 1996 and began one of the greatest runs in NBA history?

i think this would be something interesting to talk about. i feel like the top two are easy. those are

1. Celtics from 1957-1969
2. Lakers from 1980-1991

then i guess it gets kinda tricky. i guess it would go

3. Bulls from 1991-1998

the fourth is really a tossup and could go either way between the Lakers run from 2000-2010 and the spurs run from 1999-2014. on one hand, the spurs run is longer and has a greater length of continued success. on the other hand, the lakers have won the same amount of titles and been to more NBA finals even with a shorter time frame. the 5th would be which one isnt 4th. i feel like this could be a thread

just saw on my facebook feed on WKRG that the last time that this guy managed a team was 30 years ago here in Mobile at Davidson High School.

is that a fact?

that really is something else. Seems like they could have gone a number of different ways here but they went with the guy who's been on the shelf for a while?

sounds awesome

I heard Stanton likes him. So he will have the locker room. Managing baseball is really not that hard, especially compared to the other big sports. Just need a good hitting coach and a good pitching coach.

Fox sports rosenthal just said the Marlins are one of the biggest revenue sharing takers and the other owners are going to start asking questions about Loria. The new GM turned manager's last and only managing job was 30 years ago and it was a high school team. They are still paying Ozzie Guillen, Redmond and several other fired execs. They are a trainwreck.
