MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Next time you go to Marlins Park, you won’t be sitting in the nosebleed seats, at least during weekday games.

The Marlins, whose attendance ranks last in the National League five weeks into the season, have decided to close the upper bowl at Marlins Park for certain weekday games, an approach the team used at times at Sun Life Stadium.

The higher deck seats will be off limits starting with the Marlins next home games series which starts Tuesday.

That will reduce the attendance capacity by about 10,000.

The move is expected to save the team money on game operations, as fewer ushers and other staff will be needed to man the areas on the upper floors.

Wow, this is pretty sad

If there was ever a team that should be yanked out of a city..... This has to be it.

Attendance has been terrible as a whole this year in MLB. The same can be said for NASCAR events.

Miami is a perennial putrid sports city for some reason, so this stands to reason.

This is why they should take teams out of bandwagon bitchville (places like Miami) and award them to places like OKC, that will fully appreciate a team, and a smaller market can't be much worse than a big city that shows zero support. Take it to a place where it's gonna be the only game in town.

Why should people reward that POS owner by going to games when he fricked the city to get a stadium and then puts out a shite product on the field. Too bad loria is boys with the commissioner. MLB should force the sale of the team.

Exactly. I wouldn't support that team if I lived there.

Yeah I'm not disagreeing with you at all. But shitty owner aside, they've never deserved that team. And they've won rings in their short lifespan and still can't consistently get support. frick, imagine if the Indians won as many rings as the Marlins with the same ratio of rings/existence. Hell just 1 or 2 rings in history would be enough, but imagine 2 rings in 20 years???

So if you had season tickets in the upper deck you just got a seat upgrade?

Other than the players, the Marlins organization deserves everything that is happening to them

Wonder if they could save even more money by taking a page from the European soccer leagues and play in a literally empty stadium?

Went to the Mets game last nite, I doubt there were more than a 150 fans in the upper deck. Look like an Astros game.

Attendance figures for those interested. I sorted by % of capacity as that's probably the most fair since stadiums vary greatly.
