Marlins All-Star second baseman has been suspended 80 games, without pay, after testing positive for exogenous Testosterone and Clostebol, two performance-enhancing substances that are banned under Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. MLB made the announcement on Thursday night following the Marlins' win over the Dodgers.

Justin Verlander Verified account ?@JustinVerlander This PED shite is killing me. If u test positive u need to not play. You shouldn't be allowed to effect games while appealing.

you already should

he still has no idea how to draw a walk and had the 3rd highest babip in all of baseball, which was a cool 40 points higher than his career average. this first month of 2016 he was back to his usual performance. he has had a slash line of .267/.283/.344, has a wRC+ of 63, and believe it or not is actually walking less than he ever has with a 2.2 BB%

You do realize that Dee Gordon is supposed to have a great BABIP with his elite speed, right? Let's not act like the Dodgers made a good trade (technically two) there even with the PED suspension.

Players are getting pissed again. Great article from Rosenthal this morning. He thinks we could see full year and even multi year suspensions soon to even possible voiding of contracts.

quote:

Gordon, who recently turned 28, signed a five-year, $50 million extension on Jan. 14. He will forfeit approximately $1.31 million of his $3 million salary while serving his suspension, but the rest of the contract will remain his, enabling him to effectively take money that otherwise could go to players who remain clean.

Therein lies the rub.

The question, with the collective bargaining agreement expiring Dec. 1, is whether enough players are angry enough to press their union into accept the voiding of multi-year deals for those who are suspended for PEDs.

The players, in the words of union chief Tony Clark, "have shown an unprecedented willingness to negotiate significant mid-term amendments to the program." But, Clark added, "they also care deeply about due process and fundamental fairness."

What's that? 30% of the league!? This just in. Most professional athletes are using or are flirting with something that is a banned substance but they know how to play the system and the game the right way to not get caught.

the babip numbers he had last year were 40 points higher than his career average. he hasnt always had great babip numbers, i believe they were under .300 in 2012 and 2013, even though he didnt play as much in 2013. the point is he went from being top 20ish in babip that he was in 2014, to having the third highest babip in all of baseball in 2015. these are his career slashlines when he was top 20ish in babip instead of the third highest: .272/.314/.345 with an OPS of .658 and a wRC+ of 77. thats not good when he only walks in about 3% of his at bats. if he was ever able to actually get his BB% up to around 10%, to go along with his normally above average babip, then yea hed be a great, versatile player. but the fact remains that he just isnt and had a fluke year last year. he doesnt get on base enough to utalize his speed. hell, last year he won the batting title and still was only 36th in OBP and that was by far his career best and 30 points higher than his career average. i would make the trade every single time if i was andrew friedman or farhan zaidi
