Before training camp.

quote:

If even a sliver of doubt festered in the recesses of the minds of Tennessee Titans fans about whether Marcus Mariota would start Day 1, coach Ken Whisenhunt erased it Thursday.

Asked by NFL Media's Tiffany Blackmon about the Titans' quarterback pecking order, Whisenhunt replied:

Play NFL Fantasy Football!
"You mean after Marcus?"
It's clear that Mariota is the starter as training camp kicked off Thursday and will be when the Titans face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to open the season.

Sorry, Zach Mettenberger fanatics. It's Mariota's job.

The No. 2 overall pick in the draft has progressed well during offseason workouts, according to Whisenhunt, but the team doesn't want to overload the rookie -- including too much off-the-field marketing as the face of the franchise.

Late to the party - Wisenhunt basically said this right after the draft.

That said, I expect to see Zach by game 5

Why would Mett be playing by the fifth game? Injury?

They aren't gonna shatter the rookies confidence by benching him that quickly, that I'm sure of

QBs with concrete as feet are a dying breed in the NFL.

Jaboo Winston will be a better QB in the NFL than Mariota. The Titans are a damn joke.

I don't think anyone expected anything different. The real test will see how long he can take a beating for running around like he does. Mettenberger will still certainly see the field at some point this year.

Unless they run something similar to the Oregon offense....this won't end well

This subject will be better than when Wilson beat out Flynn.

I still think we should've drafted Amari Cooper and just rode out Mett and if he was garbage then we could have a top 5 pick in next years drafted to get a QB and that draft should be deeper at the position

But I'm no NFL GM so what do i know

And yet the ones that are prototypical pocket QBs keep winning Super Bowls. As long as the NFL keeps picking the biggest, fastest defensive guys a running QB will have limited shelf life.

Wisenhunt is an idiot.

This is EXACTLY why Mett wanted to be traded.

Because traditionally, a rookie QB will suck. Like really suck.

Mett wasn't terrible last year. He's capable. Mariotta comes from a very simple offense. He needs to learn a much more complex offense. It's not that hard to figure out.

Mett does have a lot of talent. I like his game. I wouldn't mind him in Denver. He's better than Osweiler.
