How did winning a Super Bowl as Trent Dilfer make him the GOAT?

Because his stats scream he is the GOAT, but the big knock on him was he didn't have enough Super Bowl titles to be the GOAT. Well, 2 Super Bowl titles isn't the most ever, but making 4 Super Bowl appearances with 4 different head coaches and winning 2 Super Bowls with 2 different organizations are things that have never been done and might trump just enough of the negatives to allow the career numbers to be counted.

Super Bowl wins are still highly overrated when discussing tGOAT. Plus Manning has never had anyone like the truly GOAT coach Bill Bellicheck

You're so funny.

The man will go down as one of the most prolific passers of all time, and after so many incredible seasons it's almost Shakespearean that he wins the Super Bowl during his worst season ever. It's funny how life can be. The football gods are such a weird bunch.

If you're a Manning fan, it's sweet, but bitter sweet.

Yup this season should ultimately diminish how much weight winning a championship carries while arguing GOAT status.
He was a freaking machine and people were downplaying him because of only one ring, now he gets a ring while playing like crap for the most part and NOW he's the goat?

He's retiring and he's known it all along. He just doesn't want to take the focus off the Broncos and their SB of which he knows he was just a role player. As soon as the hoopla dies down he will announce it

He stood like a statue in the pocket, couldn't make downfield throws, and committed two turnovers. He threw for less than 150 yards, no touchdowns, and his 56.6 rating was fourth worst all time for a Super Bowl.

So he took the Greg McElroy approach to a championship game? They still won.

And they'll be no worse off next year with Osweiler. See ya, Peyton. Enjoy your budweiser.

I don't know when it became a reality, probably when he played so awful in the game he got the passing yards record and sat out a month for injuries. But he most certainly is ready to retire, and even told Belicheck as much after their game.

I don't think Peyton always gives boring "answers in a can" or cliches to the media, but he certainly did for weeks when answering the retirement question, "I'm taking it one game at a time, focused on my next opponent, I haven't had time to think about anything else..."

He gone.

Yeah given the situation with his cap hit, how banged up he must be, and finishing with a Super Bowl win it just feels perfect for him to walk away.

Lot of Brady ball lickers on this thread, all of whom are so threatened now about Brady's status. Pats Pulpit even had an articl after the game saying it doesn't change Brady's status, essentially. So scared.

Agreed.

He's handled this all pretty perfectly.

I mean, I don't think they'll win the Super Bowl.

Osweiler will be a better quarterback in 2016 than Peyton Manning would be. I agree there.
