One thing I would do is put a stop to taking breaks and letting the relief pitchers warm up after they've probably thrown 20 pitches in the pen.

Aside from injury replacements, relief pitchers should be ready to go when they come in.

What a fricking imbecile. When I am paying anywhere from 20$ - 100$ for a ticket, I honestly don't care how long the game takes. Actually, I prefer a little longer game when I pay a gob of money for a ticket. What pisses me off is the no more alcohol sales after the 7th inning. Change that bullshite. If I'm at home watching a game on TV, I'll simply change the channel if a game gets too long or boring

my ignorance, but how will this speed the game up. Wouldn't more pitching changes and increased offense in late innings increase game lengths?

Manfred has wanted 2 things from the very beginning... faster games and more runs scored. Anybody with a brain knows that more runs scored will likely lead to a longer game.

One thing that I would do if you want to speed up games is to limit the amount of mound visits for a catcher just like you do with coaches.

If he want to end the righty up switch, lefty up switch, righty up switch in an inning by saying you can switch twice and inning or once an inning, that wouldn't be so bad.

If they limit the number of changes per inning, you would also run into a situation where your reliever is getting shelled, but oops, you already used your one pitching change. All of the sudden you've got a 30+ minute half-inning on your hands.

Simple truth is more runs scored = more pitching changes = longer games. The two go hand-in-hand more often than not.

Game length increasing because of more runs isn't a problem. What Manfred is trying to do is lower game time increments which aren't tied to entertaining things happening, like pitching changes, conferences, warm up pitches, etc. It isn't necessarily about changing game length, it is about filling the time with entertaining things that make the game move forward, and eliminating boring things that take up time in a game.

So you admit to changing the channel if a game goes on too long, but he's an imbecile for being concerned about that?

Call the strike zone as it is in rule book (bring back the high strike). Pitchers will throw more pitches up in the zone. More strikeouts - which is exciting for the home crowd when their pitcher notches a K. Also, more high mistakes equals more HRs (chicks dig the long ball).

It's a way to accomplish his two seemingly contradictory goals. Win/Win.

So, you don't think when Nolan Ryan was mowing down batters, or the Big Unit throwing gas past hitters wasn't exciting?

There is absolutely zero chance this happens. MLBPU is way too strong to concede giving up either roster spots (jobs) or some sort pitch/inning/change limit which would limit relievers' value ($). He's bluffing.

That's stupid reasoning. Limit relief pitchers because they are too good.

BS.

Plus Manfred, want to speed up the game?

1. Institute a pitch clock
2. Don't let batters step out of the box and adjust every piece of equipment between pitches
3. Limit trips to the mound. Do like football, a team gets 3 TOs (trips to the mound) per game and that's it.

I think the most extreme measure I would possibly agree with (not that my opinion matters) would be that once in a game a pitcher has to complete an inning unless injured. And I don't really like that but I wouldn't quit watching if thy did it.

Baseball's TV ratings problems have nothing to do with the length of the games. A lot of people don't tune in due to the repetitiveness and monotony of the sport, the sheer number of televised games and the explosion of entertainment options in recent years. It's puzzling why MLB believes making baseball a faster-paced sport would suddenly get people to tune in and watch. It won't.

I have heard some pretty dumb takes from Manfred already. He seems a bit Dusty Baker-ish.
