Found this interview with him from a few years ago. He says that he was essentially blackballed because of the Muslim conversion and that his best years were taken away from him. Pretty interesting.

But, around the 15:30 mark, he says that the game has deteriorated. Guys are getting paid because they can do one or two things well, but very few have a complete game and they don't develop as well as they used to. He said he played against Bird, Jordan, and Joe Dumars and guys like that and that they were just better than what he sees today. Says he can't even watch the NBA very much because it is a lot of isolation plays with guys just standing around watching the guy with the ball.

I have been saying that for years. It is a pretty contested topic here on this board as some say the game is so much better now than it was in the 80s and 90s. I disagree.

Do you think Rauf knows what he's talking about or he's just an old guy pining for his glory days?

He's right. I mean players like LeBron, Durant, Harden, Curry, Davis, and Westbrook have very limited skill-sets.

This isn't debatable if you are at least 30 imo.

The game is the best it's ever been. We are in the golden age of professional basketball RIGHT NOW.

That's not debatable.

This is absolute horse poo.

There is way less iso basketball today than there was in the '90's.

It still amazes me when people who have played the game their whole life are so clueless when it comes to the x's and o's of the game.

I guess they could shoot and pass and dribble and did what the coach told them without having a lick of IQ when it came to analyzing the game.

The biggest difference is the big men in 90's were dominate players.

The NBA plays a game today with no skilled big men, that's a fact.

He compares today's players to Bird and Jordan so unless you don't consider them elite, he sure seems to be discussing elite players. Besides, there have always been role players that excel in one area, in every sport.

Who does he want to compare?

Point Guard- Isaiah Thomas vs Tony Parker?

Shooting Guard - Reggie Miller vs Steph Curry
