So, why did Magic make his sudden announcement that he's leaving ESPN, less than three weeks before the NBA season begins? An announcement so sudden that the newest addition to NBA Countdown, Doris Burke, appeared to have had no idea it was going down?

ESPN sources tell us that Johnson's departure was the result of an old-fashioned power war, with one very clear winner: Bill Simmons. "It's Simmons's show now," said one source.

ESPN could switch their lineup all they want. TNT is just good television.

ESPN tries to be too serious and you can tell the producers "over-produce". TNT I feel just lets them go.

I like Simmons, has some smart stuff in his articles, don't watch most of the pre game NBA stuff but liked him on the finals last year

Doris Burke actually know her stuff.

They need to get rid of Wilbon and eliminate Simmons nack for pop culture references.

Simmons did a good job of acting like he loved Magic being on the crew. But this is a good move for the show, Magic was up there for nostalgia. Too many times the other guys would serve him up softball questions and he wouldn't be able to remember who the Grizzlies starting PG was. As someone said on twitter, Simmons is the only guy up there who would even pretend that he has League Pass.

It's even worse when the ESPN guys try to be like TNT. The terrible dynamic makes me cringe
