If you're doing a scripted drama. If it's a debate show about yesterday's sports happenings it's a great idea. This is a pre-ESPN idea as well, it's taken from places like the McLaughlin Group
who is drawing viewers to espn...who are their stars?

take any cable network and you can answer that question easily and none of them were covering sports for a regional paper.

Tom Brady, Lebron James, Russell Westbrook, etc.

Stephen A was. Wilbon and Kornheiser were. But a sports network isn't like other cable networks.

ESPN is very similar to EA Sports, they tried to hoard every sports league and sport. Claiming sole streamer, and then lost their asses.

Best part about ESPN, is they still owe billions, buwahahahaha.

Disney still isn't done putting their foot up ESPN arse. See, Board directors don't give a frick about the SEC,NBA,MLB. They only see profits or losses, and ESPN is bleeding cash, and they will continue going in raw on ESPN.

unattractive people who aren't natural on camera and aren't interesting aren't ideal for television.

Dudes don't really care that much about having handsome men tell them sports and Jessica Mendoza and even Sam Ponder shows us how many they like hearing it from a woman.
You sound like you want a Fox News model of hiring but most ESPN viewers would complain about a Andrea Tantoros or Megyn Kelly telling them about sports

how many times was tom Brady on ESPN this year playing football? You need in house draws otherwise you're a waiter at a seasonal restaurant.

You may not like Russo's personality and his voice may grate on you, but his show is everything ESPN radio isn't: it's straight sports talk. Same thing with Francesa. Very little fluff and nonsense. They basically give their opinions and then take calls the rest of the show. Good guests and the interviews are usually pretty good.

oh yes they do otherwise tv would be full of ugly people. its by no means then be all end all but subconsciously you respond better to attractive people. And anyway the skirts they have on air aren't really that good looking either.

I'm not telling you they should hire untalented skirts

I'm telling you they should hire TV people to do television. it's not rocket science.

That's Skip and Stephen A. They're trying with SVP. Name sports personalities who move the needle on TV?
Jim Rome, already done that and he's played out.
Simmons thought he was, he's not.
Katie Nolan sounds right down your alley but nobody actually watches her show, that might just be a function of where it airs.

PTI is probably the highest rated sports show in all of sports related television. Inside the NBA might beat them.

so hire someone good at television to talk about him not Jackie mcirish or that kid from NOLA.

svp...he's a broadcaster. Maybe don't have him scared shitless that any minor thing can get him suspended and let him go on camera instead of some slob who works at a newspaper

Nah he's good IMO. Sometimes it is nice to just get a break from the ESPN lineup on radio.

Sports related television? Who gives a frick. they're on at 5:30. oh shite let me drop what I'm doing, kornheiser and wilbon are on the air. That's 30 minutes of programming. I'm not saying the show sucks or doesn't bring viewers but i said who is a draw.

Anderson cooper is a draw. He's a star. Not tony kornheiser

That's when they need to fill air time with something other than a live sporting event. Having one of the highest rated shows on in that timeslot is pretty important.

AC is CNN's primetime spot. ESPN's primetime spot is some game.

I never said they had to be attractive. You've got to be good at television not writing articles

everyone in that picture is broadcaster. a tv (and some of them radio) talent

Not a print publication talent. 11 of the 14 are moderately attractive too. You don't need to look like a model just not like jay marioti

they're running sportscenter starring the cast of roots as the lead in for a Yankees/Red Sox game

Luckily it's New York and Boston so it won't matter how much their talent sucks tonight, but they don't have that game every night or even most nights and you know it

That's your own issue with two black people on tv.

ESPN might not have a game in primtetime one, maybe two nights a week from football season to the completion of basketball season. During baseball season it's more filler but every network slows down during the summer.

no, that's a black joke. it's not my issue either, it's espn's issue and the issue is they're boring and they're not broadcasters. SAS, he's not, but he's interesting.

speaking of race, they talk so much about it but at the same time they've created an environment where people are afraid to say anything interesting. you can't have it both ways. I don't like colin cowherd but that Puerto rican joke that made the news...that shite was funny. funny = entertaining.
