LSUA Men's Basketball unanimously voted No. 1 in NAIA poll

I know this is not big league, and that many schools left the NAIA when the NCAA came to be. However, it's still nice to see one school in this state, particularly within the LSU System have success. These guys will be in the playoffs while our big tigers are sitting at the house.

LSUA unanimously voted No. 1 in NAIA poll
Generals won first 13 games, best start in program history
LSUAGENERALS.COM
As the lone undefeated team remaining in the NAIA, the Generals were unanimously voted the nation’s new top team, taking over the No. 1 spot in the new Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, released Tuesday afternoon.
The Generals are in the midst of the best start in program history, having won the first 13 games. That included two teams in the new top 25 — Dillard and LSU Shreveport — and three more that were just outside the top 25 — SAGU, Langston and Loyola.
Since the last poll was released Dec. 6, LSUA is 6-0, including 3-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play, with road wins against Langston and Dillard, both of whom were ranked in that poll.
“I am proud with how our men have applied themselves both on and off the court,” said head coach Larry Cordaro, “and we are humbled to have been voted the new No. 1 team.
“However, our goal remains to finish the season in this same spot, and we have to earn that one game at a time. I’m happy with how the team complements each other and has gelled, but we still have room for improvement each and every day.”
This is the sixth time in program history the Generals have reached the pinnacle of the NAIA Top 25, closing out the final five regular season polls last season in the top spot. It’s the third time all 10 voters voted LSUA as the No. 1 team, which was also done the final two polls of the regular season last year.
LSUA finished 2015-16 having won the last 20 regular season games, and has stretched that regular season win streak to 33 straight.
LSUA’s new ranking will be challenged immediately, as No. 8 Wiley invades The Fort at 7 p.m. Friday.
“We know being No. 1 puts a big target on us, one we embrace,” Cordaro said. “It takes a lot of people to make us this successful, including supportive administration and a raucous fan base that backs us day in and day out, and we are very thankful for all of that.”

I would love to see them play LSU

One question, do non-NAIA games not count for them? I saw on their website they are 13-0 but I see they lost some games to NCAA teams.
Anyways, pretty cool that they're #1 right now.

Can we hire their coach as our real one?

I know that DII schools at least won't count games against DI competition UNLESS they win. I know some people who are SID's at DII schools who have told me they count it as an exhibition if they lose.

They played a couple of D-1 schools at the beginning of the season, but the games were considered "exhibitions".
They have been known to embarrass a couple of mid-major D-1 schools, in fact did it in the 2015-16 season.
What we do know is that this coach is young, energetic, recruits his arse off (will go out of state since he can offer schollys), and evidently knows something about basketball.
Given their post-season conference tournament will be in Alexandria this year, might warrant watching.
However, like a couple of you, I am wondering aloud about this coach going to the next level. He had assistant coaching experience prior to becoming HC at LSUA. Granted, LSUA is NAIA, but you still have to get some talent and know how to coach it in order to be this successful.
That seems to be lacking with our "big tigers."

happy for LSUA, but I miss LSUS being the best NAIA program in the state

Just checked out their roster because I figured it would be littered with kids from small C and B schools. Nope, not 1 actually.

Coach Larry is a class act. Great coach that gets the team involved with the community. He's got the team in a different local church every Sunday. They continue to win every year and improve.

They won by 2 against Northwestern State.

He is and also was a manager at LSU during his time here. I know for sure that LSU would be his dream job.

They beat us last year, probably the worst Demon team in almost 10 years. Demons won 82-69 this year.
LSUA is a solid team.

They ought to be entertaining to watch when their post-season conference tourney comes to Alexandria in a couple of months.

so they won tonight 97-62 and according to twitter stalled all possessions with under three minutes left...
sorry that isn't a big enough lead for that kind of thing. 35 points isn't out of the ordinary. to be showing visible signs of mercy like that, you should be up 70 or 80

earlier this year, LSUS actually had a guy on their roster that played for Notre Dame but he's not on the team anymore. I'm assuming he got kicked off
