Live Oak's Jacob Phillips signs as Free Agent with Seahawks

Live Oak's Jacob Phillips, Class of 2006, signs a 3-year deal as a free agent Tackle/Deep Snapper with the Seattle Seahawks. Phillips was a C/DT at Live Oak, and played 1 year on the D-line at Belhaven, before anchoring the Belhaven O-line for 3 years. Leaving Live Oak at 6'6" and 230, Phillips now checks in at 6'6" and 305. He is a top 10-15 all-time player at Live Oak.

So there are 10-15 more Live Oak alumni that got an invite to an NFL camp?

Played with him. He was actually a LS/DE/TE at Live Oak. He was best at DE

Phillips should have been at TE at Live Oak, but had a stubborn coach trying to promote his own son at TE and refused to give Jacob a chance, even though Jacob had better blocking skills, more athleticism, more speed and better hands. Jr year, they had Jacob at Center and he was too tall and always had guys falling into his legs. Had the coach helped Jacob, he could have gone D-II or to a D-IAA school in LA, but no help and then the coached quit that spring and a new guy arrived. Five kids in that 2006 class got a taste of college football, but not the coach's kid.

I was a senior on that 2006 team. Trust me, we all knew it was about B.B. that year (im not gonna say his name). when he got hurt in preseason we all got a laugh out of it and the coach quit on us right after that.

I won't discuss names either, but it was too bad for the other kids...what was your number? Those Live Oak kids had talent that year, especially on D. The injury happened while trying to have him catch a ball while sliding, for a newspaper photo too...or at least that is the story and about 50 kids saw it happen...the picture was even in the paper.

yeah the injury occurred during a water break. the coach got BB to go run a route so the guy could get a shot. of course, BB being the clumsy fool he was stumbled and fell.... Back then and still to this day I believe we had the talent to win 5-6 games that year. We had Springfield beat and we should have beaten Belaire and Glen Oaks. the coaching is what plagued us imo. oh and i was the starting LG that year. I also played some DE and was on most of the special teams

You definitely should won more games. I saw the Springfield game. Live Oak had a kid fall down on his own feet with a clear path to the end zone in front of him on a return, lost a fumble after a long drive at the end of a first down run at the Sprinfield 5 yard line and then "barely, allegedly" missed a field goal on the last play for to win. It was a good snap (JP), hold and kick. FRankly, from where I was it looked like it could have gone either way, but the uprights were too short. It went to OT at 7-7 and by then ZJ from Sprinfield had worn Live oak down and scored to win 14-7. Fortunately, Live Oak has rebounded and beat Springfield the last two years, in OT 32-26 and 21-20.

yeah i was on the kickoff return team. i remember our guy having a clear path to the endzone and he fell (he fell a lot fwiw). then when we were at the goaline our running back (KW) fumbled. worst feeling ever. at least i got in the paper trying to run down the defender after he intercepted a pass
