I guess Barbe doesn't exist in baseball

Barbe is a 5A school. If two or three kids go to private schools, the talent pool for them to choose from is still quite large.

The current arrangement screws the 2A and 3A schools more than anyone.

Barbe baseball and Peabody basketball are no where close to being as dominate as the John Curtis football program. Barbe, like Peabody, will consistently have good teams, but not consistently dominate teams. Curtis, on the other hand, has played in the championship game 17 years in a row. That's made possible by consistently replenishing talent.

Why didn't Rummel play Ouachita Christian in the finals in the dome last year? Because they are in different attendance classifications.

Select and Non-Select schools will be in different classifications next year based on their student selection classification.

I know this thread has taken a different turn but I wanted to point out that my mom is one public school principal that voted against this split.

Dunham's basketball coach is also an AAU coach. If you think that's because he loves basketball, you're quite naive.

So anyone that coaches have to "love" the sport they coach? Got it.

Me: You don't think he makes money coaching AAU? Maybe he's trying to support his family?

You: NO it is strictly to recruit for Dunham!!!!!

Me: You, sir, are an idiot.

You: Fair play!!!!! AAAAHHHHHH

AAU is one of the most crooked organizations in existence. I don't blame him for taking advantage of the system we have in place. But to say, it could not be used to steer talent to Dunham is incorrect.

That's more of the nature of the sport rather than the nature of the program. Plus barbe and Peabody have tougher classifications

I could do a lot of things that I do not!

There are tons of reasons that people coach/start up AAU teams.

Also, he does not need to be an AAU coach to try and steer kids to his program!

I didn't say Alabama, I said SEC schools.
They can get your kids to move and go to their schools, but it is verboten to get kids from their states to play for you.

So kids are not allowed to move into a new district and play sports for public schools. In your example, no athlete can move into Louisiana and play for LSU, that's verboten. Are you going to argue that kids don't move into Barbe's zone to play baseball?

1) the LHSAA is first and foremost a principals organization. This is how they want to run their organization. Get over it

2) Select schools are the most butthurt because they know it will effect their future recruitment

3) This is not only about recruitment, its also about having kids on your campus from 5th grade on up. No public high school gets that 7 year advantage

4) Its also about the new select schools that are popping up with the new Ed changes, who are following the Evangel/John Curtis model. Cenla Christian Academy in Rapides was barred from public school functions because of recruiting attempts at those games

I never said it couldn't be. But it could be because he is a good coach and makes money doing it.

You inferred that he only did it to recruit, not because he "loves the game".

JT Curtis = Phil Jackson. Great coach with many rings, but if you give me MJ, Scottie, Kobe, and Shaq, I may run into a championship or two.

I'm not saying it's the only reason, but it's an obvious benefit associated with the job.

Don't see the problem. Public schools and parochial schools operate with different rules for recruiting etc. So 1 set of leagues for public and parochial with big schools and small schools. new jersey does that

The difference between the two is that Phil inherited teams with those players while Curtis built his program from the ground up.

Curtis is more like legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden. Wooden took over a team which had 2 winning seasons out of the past 18, made it a winner, then kicked it into high gear by winning 10 titles in a row.

That's not to say that Wooden didn't have boosters running around his program giving players like Bill Walton money under the table, though.
