ou seem to be going in two different directions on this, talking about top talent and then talking about average talent.

The best recruits coming out of LA tend to be public school athletes.

Privates like Parkview may produce a decent amount of D1 ballers but they tend to top out around the three-star mark as they are coached up to their potential instead of being freak athletes.

The freak talent is overwhelmingly better at public schools, but the coaching at public schools is not good enough to get the middle of the road guys to where they need to be.

Wait, they recruited players after Katrina and what happened to them?

The LHSAA stripped at least one football title from them for ineligible players, deciding that one or more of the players who came in were recruited.

You want to compare Evangel's education to WM?

Why would I? They are the exception to the private schools. You know that. Curtis is the same way.

The sad thing is that there are a lot of ingorant people in bumfrick small towns that think Opelousas Catholic and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte are the same as Evangel and John Curtis.

That just isn't the case. Same with Jesuit, Brother Martin, Catholic, etc. Yes, some of those schools have great athletic programs, but mostly the kids are at those schools because their parents wanted them to have a particular type and quality of education.

So, how many titles have been stripped from private schools for this same type of violation?

I would love to take you up on that because it is a fact that (with an error of one or two because it was months ago) that 77 LA athletes were on NFL rosters at the beginning of the season and only 17 were from private schools.

So I guess I can assume that there were 60 public school kids and 17 private school kids? That's 3.5 to 1, and it seems similar to the breakdown in public schools vs private schools.

Of course, the real difference isn't the number of "blue chip" players a team has, it's the number of good to average players and how well they perform. Do you want the team with 2 stud players and not many other good players, or the team with 0 stud players but 15 very good players? If your one or two stud players make the team theory was correct, then Miami of Ohio with Ben Rothliesberger could have beaten the big boys. Vanderbilt and Jake Cutler should have competed for SEC titles. East Carolina and Chris Johnson should have been able to beat anybody in the nation.

Look at Haynesville, currently in 1A, and tell me that Oak Grove is the best program in that classification.

Those frickers have won at least 10-12 state titles, including a bunch of 2A titles in a row during my playing days.

That you have contempt for people that want a better education for their kids and want to disallow them from competing in athletics?

The committee also recommended the plan’s select and nonselect schools each have five football playoff divisions for 2013 and that all championships should be played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

They will probably wing it. They have been good with that lately. Just make up rules in the middle of the playoffs if it suits them.

In football? The main one I can think of is a 1A title from around 1997 or so. IIRC, Southern Lab had an ineligible player and had to forfeit their title to Dunham.

Red's retired. Which I guess the same could be said for Vic since he left last year. Haynesville is definitely #1 public school in 1A and hell maybe the state period. Their tradition is ridiculous.

That girls basketball playoff clusterfrick will likely haunt them for a long time.

can you imagine the "what ifs" we will have now

for instance if we didn't get to see Barbe vs Rummel last year, or even WM vs Rummel

these schools will most certainly want to play each other after each wins their private or public title

Catholic league apologist. I also think he (and others)are really overvaluing the "Catholic league games fill the stands" argument.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Parents should have the choice to send their kids to public school, or private school. If they want them to compete in athletics, then they have to send them to the nearest geographical private school their child is eligible to attend. I mean, its about "education", right? You live in Mandeville and want you kid to go to John Curtis, move to River Ridge. You'll pass at least 10 other perfectly acceptable academic institutions on your way, including some without ever getting off the north shore.

Problem solved.

So, you would like parents to declare whether they send their kids to private schools for academic purposes or for athletic reasons?
And if the students were there purely for academics, then they could play sports against public school students? But, if they are enrolled merely because the quality of the athletic program and the opportunities said program might afford these student athletes, then they should have to face foes with student athletes from similar situations?

So basically you don't believe in the free market. You have to give up something in order to have the freedom to choose a school. You are not allowed to live where you want and send your kid to a school that isn't in that area?
